12 PERSON TAG TEAM MATCH: THE TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE BROMANS, BAD INFLUENCE, DJ ZEMA ION & LEI’D TAPA (TEAM DIXIE) VS. “THE COWBOY” JAMES STORM, GUNNER, SAMOA JOE, ODB, JOSEPH PARK & ERIC YOUNG (TEAM SAMOA JOE)
TNA Booking Sheet: Team Samoa Joe def. Team Dixie.
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Team Samoa Joe def. Team Dixie.
Analysis: An impromptu 12 person tag match kicks off the in-ring competition. While the Dixie Carter clan has been looking as strong as ever these past few weeks, it’s refreshing to see those who oppose Dixie Carter getting their time to shine and looking just as strong. Tonight’s victory by Team Samoa Joe was the right call for the simple reason that it weakens Dixie Carter. Her team is not an unstoppable force and there can be flaws to exploit. This match up was also booked nicely in terms of talent. 12 TNA superstars, who we see sporadically or less than they should be showcased received the nod. Hopefully, TNA will continue to build on this and use these talents to rebuild the TNA foundation, along with new talent coming in.
NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH: BULLY RAY VS. MR. ANDERSON
TNA Booking Sheet: Bully Ray def. Mr. Anderson.
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Bully Ray def. Mr. Anderson.
Analysis: If Bully Ray were to have lost this contest, the build up to his darker character would have gone up in smoke. Bully taking the win, as much as I am a Ken Anderson supporter, was the right call tonight. If there was something to critique, it would have to be the presentation of Bully Ray. What’s meant is that it felt like the old Bully Ray with his previous entrance song and in-ring demeanor. We are being given a darker Bully Ray, so why not give him a new entrance song and maybe even encourage alternate ring gear to accentuate the new attitude and character? The feud doesn’t end here, especially with Bully’s tweet after the match, so we build up to something deeper and more heated. Possibly a cage match? Full Metal Mayhem match?
TNA KNOCKOUTS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: MADISON RAYNE VS. TNA KNOCKOUTS CHAMPION GAIL KIM w/ LEI’D TAPA
TNA Booking Sheet: Madison Rayne def. Gail Kim (New Knockouts champion).
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Gail Kim def. Madison Rayne (Kim retains the title).
Analysis: The wrong Knockout won tonight’s contest. I understand that a returning performer gets the nod and may pick up a huge win to bolster their stock, but there could be an argument made that tonight’s loss to Madison Rayne may have been way too predictable or even uneventful by the manner in which Gail lost the gold. Though Taz, on commentary, was in character with his reactions, it’s not far from the truth to ask “what just happened?” at the end of the match. Through Ric’s Booking Sheet, Gail Kim retains in order to keep the ego of her character going and having even more to brag about in the Knockouts division. Nothing against Madison picking up a win over Gail or even the Knockouts title in the near future, but tonight should have been Gail’s night to progress her heel persona and to build on the “never say die” attitude from the returning Madison Rayne.
SINGLES MATCH w/ SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE ROCKSTAR SPUD: ETHAN CARTER III VS. STING
TNA Booking Sheet: EC3 def. Sting (Magnus interference as he is wearing a ref shirt and counts Sting down).
Ric’s Booking Sheet: EC3 def. Sting (normal ref, interference by Magnus).
Analysis: Looking at EC3 Vs. Sting on paper, one would have to know that Sting would be taking the loss tonight. Not only because it is an outcome that makes sense in order to further the Magnus/ Dixie Carter/ Sting program, but it would have been too much too soon with the earlier loss by Team Dixie to Team Samoa Joe and if EC3 were to have taken the loss. The only difference would have been a regular referee being involved, a possible ref knock down and the interference by Magnus causing Sting to take the loss. It’s a dangerous thing to show too much power, as we all know with the Randy Orton/ Daniel Bryan/ Authority situation over at the WWE months ago. We all understand the concept of generating heat, but there’s got to be some semblance of a chance at victory for Sting or anyone else involved in this main event program. Overall, EC3 picking up the win was correct in its booking and does progress the main story at the end of the day. However, the AJ Styles match last week and tonight’s one sided victory for EC3 could be taken as overkill. TNA should tread lightly in this area.
