Booking Impact! – No Country For AJ Styles

A very interesting edition of Impact Wrestling is capped Thursday night with Bully Ray getting the upper hand against AJ Styles in Aces & 8′s fashion. Along with the build to the main event of Bound for Glory, we were treated to further pay-per-view building with the Knockouts and a returning Kurt Angle.

Booking Impact! looks at the in-ring competition on tonight’s card. Will you agree with TNA’s Booking Sheet or Ric’s Booking Sheet? Booking Impact! starts now!

Booking Impact

TNA Booking Sheet: Austin Aries def. Jeff Hardy
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Austin Aries def. Jeff Hardy
Analysis: In the opening contest for tonight’s Impact Wrestling, Austin Aries dominated Jeff Hardy with precision. Hardy put up a valiant effort, but Aries was too good tonight and took the win in demanding fashion. It’s been quite some time since Jeff Hardy’s been outclassed like this.

The main points of the Ultimate X Match for the X-Division Championship at Bound for Glory is Austin’s preference to a straight up wrestling match instead of a high flying, nonsense gimmick match. He’s expressed this on screen and via outside interviews. Picking up the win and how he won pushes his point that he does not need a gimmick to put on a spectacular bout and strengthens his chances at the pay-per-view . At this stage in his career, a loss for Jeff Hardy is nothing too damaging and can actually benefit the outlook the fans have on him. With the addition of Samoa Joe, now making it a five man Ultimate X Match, Jeff Hardy is looking more like the underdog who The Creatures will surely root harder for. Aries, damning the addition of Samoa Joe, looks to have a bigger threat to worry about. The intrigue grows in the X-Division!

TNA Booking Sheet: ODB def. Jessie Godderz by DQ or No Contest due to interference from Lei’D Tapa
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Lei’D Tapa attacks ODB before the match starts.
Analysis: In a segment clearly made to use Bro Mans as filler and to continue the build of Lei’D Tapa and ODB’s Knockouts Championship match at Bound for Glory, there really isn’t much to analyze for the match itself.

This was a vehicle for Lei’D Tapa to make her presence felt again and to put the Knockouts on notice. An interesting exchange occurred on Twitter between Gail Kim and Lei’D Tapa after the onscreen attack, in which the two exchanged heated tweets in what one would assume will be a build towards a future match. Back to the in-ring action and Lei’D Tapa should have been booked to dominate ODB before the opening bell in a retelling of last week’s events. If Tapa is being booked as the new force in the Knockouts division, let her be that force. Cause chaos by not allowing matches to begin and intimidating the Knockouts in the back via attacks or just by mere presence. Lei’D Tapa has already established herself as a player, so TNA needs to stay the course and not drop the ball with the Queens of Rings.

TNA Booking Sheet: Brooke def. Velvet Sky
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Brooke def. Velvet Sky
Analysis: In a slower than usual Knockouts matchup, Brooke picks up the win from a clearly hurt Velvet Sky after last week’s attack by Lei’D Tapa. Chris Sabin (intentionally?) caused a distraction with trying to give Sky wrestling advice during her match and Brooke taking advantage. Brooke is now headed to Bound for Glory to face ODB and Gail Kim for the TNA Knockouts Championship.

Along with the advancement to the pay-per-view, a Brooke win affects Velvet Sky and her relationship with Chris Sabin. This also plays into Sabin’s Ultimate X Match and how much support she will be giving. Despite the not so stellar match itself, it’s interesting to see how this particular storyline shapes as we head into the October 20th pay-per-view. Viewing this bout says it all with not much to dissect. Ultimately, Velvet Sky’s relationship with Chris Sabin begins its rocky road which will affect his chances at winning the X-Division Championship and her chances of focusing on her place in the Knockouts division.

TNA Booking Sheet: Sting & Magnus def. Christopher Daniels & Kazarian
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Sting & Magnus def. Christopher Daniels & Kazarian
Analysis: A solid technical tag team matchup keeps the action moving along tonight with a Main Event Mafia win over the representatives of EGO. A win for the group which included tension between the two Main Event Mafia members.

The match itself could have been better, but the outcome was exactly as it should have. Magnus not picking up the win via pinfall and opting to go for the submission victory, which leads to a break of the hold and Sting tagging himself in for the pinfall win, further plays into Magnus’ ego. Feeling as though Sting took his win away, the young Magnus now has further frustration and confusion towards The Icon. This leads to the predicament of whether Magnus is edging closer towards his darker side, a move that should not be taken into consideration by TNA creative to move forward with. Atleast not at this time. These two may be what ultimately breaks up the group heading into the brand new year.

TNA Booking Sheet: AJ Styles def. Knux & Bischoff via pinfall
Ric’s Booking Sheet: AJ Styles def. Knux & Bischoff via DQ by interference from Bully Ray
Analysis: The Bound for Glory main event continues its build with an AJ Styles win over members of the Aces & 8′s followed by payback for last week’s attack on the champion by AJ Styles. Continued drama with Dixier Carter simply adds fuel to the fire and doesn’t help AJ in the least.

The match was fine, except the timing of the attack on AJ by Bully Ray should have been done as the match continued and caused the disqualification. If a loss is needed by the terms of the Aces & 8′s, so be it. A disqualification is nothing compared to weakening your opponent heading into a fight. Styles and Bully are playing a game of chess with the TNA Wrestling ring as their board. AJ Styles should find a way to retaliate intelligently next week. Let’s not forget Dixie, who attempted to pay off Styles so we would leave TNA Wrestling for good. She is still very much involved in the world title scene and looks to be getting much more comfortable in her new found attitude. As we near Bound for Glory, will Dixie provide AJ with more offers in order to leave the company? Or will Dixie Cater work with world champion Bully Ray to fix the AJ Styles issue. The beatdown tonight doesn’t help AJ, but may not affect his chances at Bound for Glory.

I really enjoyed tonights Impact and I think they listen about Lei’D Tapa screaming too much because she didn't do it tonight and it was way better just for her to come in and be dominant
