With officially 3 days left until Bound for Glory, the stars of TNA Wrestling put on their best for the advantage heading into Sunday’s event. The in-ring action on tonight’s Impact Wrestling held meaning to each individual involved, as their respective BFG matchups have been affected in large and small ways. However, were these the best decisions going into TNA’s biggest pay-per-view of the year? Booking Impact! starts now!
FOUR CORNER’S MATCH: HERNANDEZ VS. ROBBIE E VS. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS VS. ERIC YOUNG
TNA Booking Sheet: Robbie E def. Hernandez, Daniels & Young
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Robbie E def. Hernandez, Daniels & Young
Analysis: Robbie E takes the surprise win and for good reason. Remove the spiky hair and comedic schtick with Jessie Godderz and you have a wrestler with ring ability. Adding the spiky hair and comedic schtick with Jessie Godderz back, and you have a viable tag team with the ability to become tag team champions. Daniels and Kazarian are the most entertaining team in TNA Wrestling, but maybe it’s about time a team considered to be an afterthought take center stage and be given a chance to shine.
It’s never a good idea to be too complacent and a change is good. Robbie E and Jessie Godderz should have momentum going into Bound for Glory as every talent on the roster should be a threat. The tag team division is a shell of itself with no real tag teams vying for the gold. If Robbie E and Jessie Godderz continue, or start to be used effectively, they can be a presence on TNA Wrestling television starting with Bound for Glory.
KNUX VS. TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPION GUNNER
TNA Booking Sheet: Gunner def. Knux
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Gunner def. Knux
Analysis: There were two reasons to book this contest: Giving the TNA Tag Team Champions Gunner and James Storm their moment to put their stamp on Bound for Glory and progressing the ever growing dissension within the Aces & 8′s. Booking Gunner over Knux executes this perfectly in a no nonsense matchup.
In the case of Aces & 8′s, the TNA Championship match between AJ Styles and Bully Ray is set up further. As Knux proclaimed after tonight’s loss, it will be interesting to see what happens when Bully asks for help. BFG could be the finale of the Aces & 8′s saga as a unit. In the case of Gunner and James Storm, one would almost forget they are the tag team champions. That is a testament to the lack of focus given to these men and the division. What the tag team matchup at Bound for Glory should accomplish, and this applies to all current storylines or feuds, is the start of a new beginning. Genesis is the January pay-per-view for TNA Wrestling, but this can be an early genesis for the tag team division. It should be anyway, but there are still internal kinks that need to be worked on. We can only hope for a great match to influence a positive and focused outlook on the tag team division after Sunday night.
CHRIS SABIN VS. SAMOA JOE
TNA Booking Sheet: Samoa Joe def. Chris Sabin
Ric’s Booking Sheet: No contest due to all Ultimate X participants getting involved
Analysis: The Ultimate X Match for the TNA X-Division Championship can be the show stealer of the night on Sunday. The difficult thing about this is not making any of the advertised competitors look weakest. Samoa Joe over Chris Sabin can rile up the live crowd, but it hurts the view of Chris Sabin going into the pay-per-view. Sabin, in his current program, hasn’t looked too good in the ring as far as wins and losses. Another in the loss column is unnecessary for Sabin.
The best outcome tonight would have been Samoa Joe and Chris Sabin going head to head with Austin Aries involving himself unannounced. Getting in the face of Chris Sabin, in which a shoving match ensues, and then fists are flying. The rest of the Ultimate X participants make their way and execute their respective finishers until the last man standing is the X-Division Champion Manik. In this scenario, all challengers to the champion look strong and the playing field is even between them. The champion must look strongest however, as he is the champion. The X-Division bout will be a fast paced epic with, as stated previously, Austin Aries as the favorite.
MAGNUS VS. BULLY RAY
TNA Booking Sheet: Bully Ray def. Magnus
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Bully Ray def. Magnus
Analysis: In Bully’s show off match to AJ Styles before Bound for Glory, this bout was directed more so at the Magnus/ Sting predicament. The TNA Heavyweight Championship match should have been represented, but that will be discussed tomorrow via Making An Impact!. Regarding this particular build to the Sting and Magnus contest, the low blow loss to Bully was the best way to book it.
Unlike Chris Sabin, Magnus is not hurt by these recent losses. It is fuel for what may possibly be a betrayal at Bound for Glory or simply an amicable split from The Main Event Mafia. The signs are pointing to a Magnus heel turn, but is that the best thing to do? It seems that TNA doesn’t have quite as many babyfaces that can be a huge impact going forward and Magnus is the next big babyface. He can pull off either side, but Magnus’ name is growing in popularity so a loss tonight should lead to a big payoff at Bound for Glory. If TNA plays Magnus’ cards right, his fire will be quelled against Sting and we can look forward to Magnus’ big 2014.
What do you think of the in-ring action on tonight’s Impact Wrestling broadcast? Was the booking on TNA’s part exactly as it should have been or should there have been differences made? Sound off below as we are 3 days away from Bound for Glory!
