Booking Impact! – Where Have All The Matches Gone?

We’re coming off of tonight’s TNA Impact Wrestling live from Jonesboro, Arkansas and, as always, Booking Impact! looks at the wrestling bouts of the night and how I would have booked the outcomes and happenings. Do you agree or disagree with me?

Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez Vs. Christopher Daniels & Kazarian to determine the #1 contenders for the TNA Tag Team Championship
Broadcast: Chavo & Hernandez defeat Daniels & Kazarian.
How I would have booked it: Daniels & Kazarian defeat Chavo & Hernandez

First of all, this was a great opening contest which built an excitement that lasted throughout the night. Both teams came in with their A game and I thoroughly enjoyed this match. However, a tag team title match in a couple of weeks in Corpus Christi, TX should have been booked with two of the most entertaining teams in TNA (Roode, Aries, Daniels, Kazarian). A competitive and, at times, funny bout could have made for entertaining tag team moments. Chavo & Hernandez probably received the win since they will be in their home state to face the champs. Or possibly because the writers did not want two heel teams to face off. It will still be a competitive match in a few weeks with Chavo/ Hernandez but I would have loved to have seen what story would have been told between Austin Aries/ Boody Roode and Daniels/ Kazarian inside the ring.

Kurt Angle, James Storm & Eric Young Vs. Aces & 8′s (Garrett Bischoff, Wes Brisco & DOC)
Broadcast: Aces & 8′s defeat Angle/ Storm/ Young
How I would have booked it: Aces & 8′s defeat Angle/ Storm/ Young

An impromptu match up which kept the flame going in regards to Kurt Angle and his own crusade to stop the Aces. The outcome of the match was right. Having the Aces thwart Angle/ Storm/ Young gives the Aces an edge over the members of Team TNA and pushes Team TNA harder to get them the next go around.

Jeff Hardy Vs. Mr. Anderson
Broadcast: Ken Anderson defeats Jeff Hardy via DQ
How I would have booked it: Jeff Hardy defeats Mr. Anderson

I have Jeff Hardy over Anderson on my end because if Hardy and Bully Ray are going to face each other for the World Heavyweight Championship in Corpus Christi, I want Hardy to be hot. It looks like TNA is building the Corpus Christi broadcast as a pay-per-view quality show (since the tag belts are also up for grabs that night). With Anderson’s outburst in the backstage segment before the match, this would have also planted the seeds of Anderson’s character showing signs of cracking and becoming the loose canon of the Aces. I would have also kept the final moments with the table and ladder, Bully saving Anderson and Hardy stating what the stipulation for the World Championship match would be.

Random thoughts
- The crowd was very cool tonight and into the event from start to finish. TNA on the road looks good on TV and we’re finally starting to see and hear new reactions from audiences. The talent just needs to remember to take this new energy with them and perform at a high level.

- I LOVE the booking of Gail Kim and Taryn Terrell tonight. This will be the dominating Knockout’s program for a bit and it will only get more heated with Tara and Velvet Sky involved. Can this morph into a possible future Knockout’s Championship bout? Brooke Tessmacher and Mickie James were nowhere to be seen, however.

- Sting and Hogan put on an entertaining segment and I’m interested to see where these two go and how they resolve their issues. Sting was on fire tonight, for sure. You have to respect this man for being so entertaining for all of these years.

- My only gripe with tonight’s show is that is was not wrestling focused at all. 3 matches for a 2 hour broadcast? That’s pretty ridiculous in my book, but I have seen worse from TNA in the past. I will say though that all segments (verbal and physical altercations) were well done and I was thoroughly entertained from what I saw tonight. I just wish at least two more matches would have been booked for this wrestling show.

What are your thoughts on tonight’s broadcast? Sound off in the comments below and I’ll see you next week for Booking Impact! I’ll also be working on the second part to my tag team commentary article so stay tuned for that. Have a goodnight!

Liked your booking, Ric. I pretty much agree with all of the matches you booked. One thing I do question is Jeff Hardy going over. While I do like how you have him going over to keep him hot leading to his match with Bully, I felt like the ending segment gave him what he needed to move on. Really no one knows about the loss because it was so quick and then he went on to the brawl against Ken.

I really didn't even know there were 3 matches. I wrote the full results and it seemed like there was more. The matches were good though… which makes me think they had more than 3. There were a lot of segments though. Hard to balance it out.

Thanks Alex. I guess I wanted to book Hardy to win and also to have the same end segment play out in order tt get Hardy go to hard on the Aces. Bully screwed Hardy and TNA over, so why is Jeff being the nonchalant challenger in his promos like it's just another title fight? I want to see a heated and vengeful Jeff.
