The original Main Event Mafia consisted of some of the biggest names in professional wrestling, despite the opinions of the IWC: Sting, Kurt Angle, Booker T, Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash. This was a group that dominated TNA Wrestling during its run but ultimately, as with any stable, imploded and was no more. There was a tease of a return years ago, but that was before Booker T and Kevin Nash signed with the WWE. It seemed as if the Main Event Mafia were truly gone. However, the Aces & 8′s have done enough to push one of the original members to the brink and proclaim that a new Main Event Mafia will rise. So, who will join the new Main Event Mafia? Who is worthy of joining The Family? You can read a great article by our own Alex Barie here looking into this in detail.

Whoever Sting chooses to join the new Mafia, don’t expect name power like the original group. Instead, expect Impact Wrestling power: men who are known, respected by the TNA fan base and who are going to take the company into the future. Based on the reaction from the Aces & 8′s, there is a growing concern and concern is the right reaction. Sting knows what he is doing, but has never had the complete backing of those in the TNA roster and management. High respect no doubt, but he has always been met with some reservation in one way or another in these types of situations. In many ways, especially coming off of a high stakes loss at Slammiversary, Sting needs the Main Event Mafia to succeed in taking down the Aces. If not completely, then the Mafia needs to strike a blow strong enough to question the foundation of the Aces. Not only is this a situation where TNA needs an answer to the Aces & 8′s dilemma, but Sting needs to revive the credibility in his capabilities and decision making.

A “Sting Watch” will be in effect tomorrow night. What exactly will be revealed to the world? Tune in to Impact Wrestling to find out!

Open Fight Night also returns tomorrow with Jeff Hardy and Bobby Roode kicking off the festivities, so to speak. Who will be chosen to make the first challenge on Impact Wrestling?

Not only is this Open Fight Night, but this is a BFG Series match. Each man needs a victory to begin building momentum as this is a chance for both men to return to the title picture. Along with these two gentleman, others on the roster have a chance to make a name for themselves via a call out.

The casual TNA fan may not think much of it, but Open Fight Night is a very important night for the up and coming stars. For that reason, the concept of OFN needs to be a TNA constant. The kind of match-ups we have seen and can see, plus new rivalries that can form, elevate its fun factor. It also gives TNA another platform to show how they are changing the idea of how wrestling can evolve. What other business will be settled in the ring? Who will step up to prove their worth?

Impact Wrestling has been on a role as of late and it is this author’s hope that tomorrow’s broadcast is another excellent night. Sting and the Main Event Mafia/ Aces & 8′s, Mickie James, AJ Styles, Bad Influence, so much to look forward to on Impact Wrestling. Before I go into this year’s series, I want to discuss the previous years. The Bound for Glory Series started in 2011 and I clearly remember it. 2011 was the debut year for me on WrestlingNewsWorld.com as I was writing Impact coverage every week. I was right in front of the Bound for Glory Series as I seen it unravel before my eyes. Honestly, it was a mess! I understand that the first time on anything isn’t the greatest, but I would have expected TNA to have been a lot more organized. The series was downright crazy. It was hard to understand the point system and the different match types. While everyone thought the person with the most points would be the winner… that wasn’t the case as it would then be settled in a Fatal Four Way Match. The winner of that match would be the series winner. While that year was very unorganized, TNA stepped it up the following year and delivered! The 2012 series was absolutely tremendous as TNA explained the rules in detail, explained the matches in detail and updated the scoreboard as the show went on.

The Bound for Glory Series is becoming a staple in TNA Wrestling just like the King of the Mountain match was. In fact, I know people who think the BFG Series is the best time of the year for TNA. That is saying something! I honestly love the whole concept and it really keeps me interested for months leading to their biggest PPV of the year, Bound for Glory.

This series is stacked with some of the biggest names in the company. It also has names that are quite new to the whole scene. They are Jay Bradley and Joseph Parks! While this is a great opportunity for Jay, I don’t see him going far. Sure, he can get a win here or there, but I expect him to be in the lower end of the scoreboard as time goes on. Remember how D’Angelo Dinero and Robbie E were in the previous years? Jay is young and has a lot of time to grow, but there’s no way that we will be seeing him in the top four. Joseph Parks is one character that TNA have been pushing hard for the past couple of months. It’s not surprising as he is over. Parks is in and we have to expect either interference by Abyss or Parks shows his violent side when he sees blood. Either way, Parks is going to gather some good amount of points, I think, but still don’t see him winning this thing.

While those are the obvious stars that have never been part of the Bound for Glory Series, there are some choices that may in fact surprise you. Kazarian, Hernandez, and Austin Aries never been part of the Bound for Glory Series. Hernandez isn’t quite as shocking because TNA has been focusing him on the tag team division for quite sometime. Austin Aries isn’t surprising either because he only rose to main event status last year as he turned his X-Division Title in at Destination X. Kazarian, who has been part of the company for years, has never been part of the series. His partner, Christopher Daniels, has been though.

12 stars are part of the series, but the top 4 stars at the end are the ones that matter. Those top four will battle it out and the winner of that match will go on to face for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Who will it be though? Looking through the stars, I can see two obvious choices. One is AJ Styles, who I have been calling the winner of the series since April, and Mr. Anderson. AJ is a given for multiple reasons like TNA pushing him back up to the top to finally get the title again. Mr. Anderson, however, has been planted in the series because Bully Ray wants an easy match at Bound for Glory. However, we can see that Anderson wants some power. He wants some control. Being champion brings both of those. It’s no secret that Anderson wants to be the focus of attention. While Bully thinks Anderson could make for an easy fight, Anderson thinks otherwise. There’s no doubt that he will put up a fight. Just imagine the story that will create! I can see TNA doing that!

Two more stars that I can see be in the top four are Samoa Joe and Magnus. Joe is one of those stars who should have no problem getting points. In fact, he can probably take out quite a few of the stars in the series quickly. It would make sense for Joe to rise up for revenge purposes but also because he really just wants to be in the main event again. I decided to pick Magnus just because of TNA’s slow push for him. Magnus has been receiving an on and off push for a couple of months, but he can really gain some ground being in this series. He doesn’t have to win it, but he can be in the top four and that will make him look like a threat and a possible contender in the near future.

While I see a great story developing if Mr. Anderson wins the series, I am still sticking with my original pick of AJ Styles. I have been vocal about him winning this year’s Bound for Glory Series since April! I can see where TNA is going with Aces and with him. It will develop a full circle. It will all tie in. While I am going with AJ, nearly anything can happen. That is why the Bound for Glory Series is such a great time in TNA!

Last week’s Impact Wrestling featured a in-ring segment with Sting as he discussed his title match he had with Bully Ray at Slammiversary. Sting brought up that no one helped him in the match while Aces & 8s were all over it. He said the Aces are like family, so now he should create a family. He is going to create a new family called the New Main Event Mafia! After this was announced, the wrestling world blew up. Some liked it and some didn’t, but almost everyone gave their opinion who the members of the group may be. I will be taking a look at choices that I’ve mostly seen and other choices that could work within the realm of the storyline!

Samoa Joe

Now anyone who is against the Aces & 8s have a great reason as to why they are in the new group. Samoa Joe has been against the Aces since day one! He has been attacked by the faction and even lost the Television Title to Devon, who is part of the group. Joe has been taken out for several weeks by Aces, but is now back. The only thing that may be stopping him from joining the New Main Event Mafia is the Bound for Glory Series. Joe is entered in the series and I would think that may be his soul priority. Who wouldn’t focus on that? If you win that series, you can get a TNA World Championship match. You could become champion! Joe can very well be a member as he was once a member of the original Main Event Mafia. That didn’t work out very well, so maybe he can rebound. It will certainly make him relevant again after seeing Joe become obsolete as I discussed here.

AJ Styles

AJ was one name that everyone brought up when they gave their predictions as to who will join the New Main Event Mafia. Let’s run through AJ’s recent history. AJ came back at the beginning of the year with a dark and quiet look. He was in it for himself. People saw him as a huge star though and that can directly be seen through Team TNA trying to get AJ on their side while Aces & 8s were trying to get him in their club. AJ went on to join Aces for a couple minutes, but ultimately turned on the club. Now they want him. They are out for revenge. Is AJ part of Team TNA though? AJ is still there for himself. While Aces are after him and New Main Event Mafia are going after Aces, AJ is still walking alone. No one can get inside his head. Hulk Hogan couldn’t. Aces couldn’t. Can Sting? I don’t see AJ joining with anyone, but that’s just me. I already mapped out where I see AJ going here.

Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle was also a name that everyone mentioned and for good reasons. Kurt has been with Aces & 8s for months. In fact, Aces played mind games with him! Remember when Wes Brisco and Garett Bischoff were around Kurt as he was teaching them the ropes of the business? Well, they turned on him and revealed that they were part of Aces the entire time! Kurt felt betrayed. They took advantage of him and he wanted payback. Each side had their own victories as Aces took Kurt out in the ring and out of the ring. Kurt evened the playing field by beating D-Lo Brown in an I Quit Match. Kurt probably still wants revenge as now they cost him a spot in the Bound for Glory Series. We do have to think about the story between him and Rampage Jackson. Kurt and Jackson went face to face two weeks ago and then Jackson came to the aid of Kurt last week. They want to fight each other, but it seems like they are building some type of friendship or alliance. Kurt can’t forget about Jackson though. Will he be part of the New Main Event Mafia for a short time? Don’t forget his history though! He ran the original Main Event Mafia and it broke up within the walls. Sting went against the group and it led to a massive brawl between Kurt and Sting. Will Sting take that into account? This is his family anyway… not Kurt’s!

Magnus

Magnus has also been one of those people who have been against Aces & 8s since their inception. Magnus has been receiving a slow push as of late. I mean slow because he is talked about the guy who can help Sting and Kurt Angle take out Aces, but then Aces attack him backstage and he goes on his way through the mid-cards. He is now part of the Bound for Glory Series, so I think that, just like Joe, may be his soul focus. While Magnus wants to get his hands on Aces, I don’t see him being in a group that revolves around big star talent. Magnus is still growing. While he is the future, the company has to book him as such. Growth is key and growth will come from the Bound for Glory Series.

Joseph Parks/Abyss

I decided to combine these two characters because it is quite obvious that the same person plays both of them. Either way, one or both of these characters could be part of the New Main Event Mafia. Joseph Parks has also been against Aces & 8s since the beginning. The group captured him, held him hostage, and finally let him go, but they continued their path of destruction as they beat him up backstage and in the ring. Parks is the one guy who never stops getting bullied. Abyss, however, is someone who went after Aces, took the Television Title from Devon, and is making some little cameo every now and then. Clearly Aces want Abyss taken out, but can they do it? I can see Sting going directly to Parks and asking if he can get in touch of Abyss. He may reward Parks by giving him a spot in the Mafia, but the focus could be for Abyss. Who knows, Parks may finally reveal that he is Abyss the whole time! Wouldn’t that damper Aces’ fire?!

D-Lo Brown

One person that people are forgetting about is D-Lo Brown! D-Lo was part of Aces & 8s for several months. He even helped the group enter the company, but it all came crashing down for him once he lost to Kurt Angle. Aces wanted him to win. They needed him to win. They wanted him to take out Kurt, but he failed to do so. D-Lo felt the wrath of Aces. They kept him around to be their maid, but that didn’t even work out. Mr. Anderson attacked D-Lo backstage a couple weeks ago and we haven’t seen him since. D-Lo is long and gone from Aces. The group got rid of the weak, but we can’t forget about him. D-Lo has to want revenge. Sting could reach out to D-Lo. He could join the New Main Event Mafia and it would give them great advantage. D-Lo was directly involved with the Aces. He knows how they think and run. He knows their strengths and weaknesses. He can convey that to the New Main Event Mafia and all they have to do is listen to D-Lo. D-Lo could really be the deciding factor in helping Aces & 8s fall.

Jeff Hardy

Out of the stars that people mentioned no one mentioned Jeff Hardy and that is a bit surprising. Jeff may be the biggest victim of Aces & 8s of the entire company. Aces took the title from Jeff, attacked him to the point where he has been absent for about 2 months and now is back and fighting Aces again. Jeff is the perfect person to be in this group. He is a main event star. He is established and he wants Aces. Aces & 8s caused him a lot of stress and he would just love to to be part of their demise. Jeff is a clear member, in my eyes. Maybe TNA still needs Jeff.

Jeff Jarrett

Many people, including me, have mentioned Jeff Jarrett many times in the past couple of months. I first mentioned him as the possible leader of Aces & 8s. It would have made perfect sense with the whole element of realism. The next mention about him came when the TNA Hall of Fame was announced. I, and mostly everyone else, thought Jeff Jarrett would be going into the Hall of Fame. Well, maybe he deserved to go in more than we were thinking he was going to go in. At any rate, that failed to become a reality as Kurt Angle was announced instead. I discussed Jeff and Kurt’s amazing rivalry they had in TNA Wrestling and listed it as one of his top rivalries in the company. In fact, Kendra Bunyon even gave her prediction that Jeff would be the free agent that TNA signed. Now his name will be mentioned in regards to the New Main Event Mafia. Jeff hasn’t had involvement on Impact Wrestling since 2011. Therefore, he never been involved with the Aces & 8s. Does that matter though? Jeff is still the founder and part owner of the company. Jeff wants what is best for his company. He sees Aces as a huge threat and wants to get rid of them. Jeff returns and helps bring his company back from the darkness named Aces & 8s. It could very well happen. Sting could have Jeff up his sleeve. TNA could pull out a shocker. I just don’t know whether we will see Jeff back on TNA television though. He’s a great talent and he sure can be utilized. Jeff is a big name and with him being part owner brings the realism into play.

Analysis: Two hot teams coming into the BFG Series Qualifier. A well paced match on television with very good spots from Bad Influence tonight. As good as Gunner and Storm looked, tonight was Bad Influence’s time. Their energy said it all.

Bad Influence takes the win for the simple fact that if they won’t be honored as tag team champions, then they are deserving of a chance to battle for the main singles title in the company. Gunner & James Storm have to carry the division as credible tag team champions, so that is where the focus should be. The result on television was spot on.

Crimson Vs. Joseph Park – BFG Series Qualifier

Analysis: Head scratch match of the night. The booking of this match on TNA’s part fell flat on its face. The issue being exactly what Crimson said in the ring: he was undefeated for 470 days. He made TNA history and should have started his rebuilding in the company tonight. Joseph Park is everyone’s favorite underdog, so what better way to set up another underdog story for Joseph than to put him in the BFG Series. These two were not put together as a sign of a possible BFG Series win, but to enhance Joseph Park and have him gain favor with the fans. This feel good moment should have been altered greatly. How about this:

For Crimson to be taken seriously again, Crimson should have gotten the win over Joseph Park to advance (and ultimately be eliminated). Joseph Park sees his own blood from a busted lip and transforms, destroying Crimson in the ring after the match up. In this scenario, Park is utilized correctly and the Abyss saga continues.

Magnus Vs. Rob Terry Vs. Kenny King Vs. Matt Morgan – BFG Series Qualifier

Analysis: Aside from the fact that Austin Aries is one of the best talents on the TNA roster and the professional wrestling world, it’s a guaranteed money match if Aries and Roode have another one on one for a chance at the world title. Though Eric Young is a veteran of the game, he can’t be taken seriously as a contender with his current gimmick.

A tweet posted by yours truly mentioned that Austin Aries is different since the incident with Christy Hemme weeks ago. If his quiet, taking a step back so Roode can have the spotlight demeanor has anything to do with that, this is his comeback as The Greatest Man That Ever Lived. Having a technical and aerial athlete such as Austin Aries promotes the high risk action we may see in the BFG Series. Tonight, the bout came off without a hitch and was solid on television.

Analysis: My previous articles have mentioned Mr. Anderson destined to ignite a change within the Aces. That spark can lead to deep dissension in the ranks or something bigger, such as a change in leadership. Tonight, Mr. Anderson get’s more shine as the winner of the Battle Royal and advances into the BFG Series…mostly through the planing of the Aces & 8′s.

Having DOC break away from the plan of all members eliminating themselves for Anderson’s victory, the stage was set for more heat within the group. Let’s not forget that this is the BFG Series, so what if Mr. Anderson advances and Bully Ray is still champion? Will Anderson lay down for his leader? Will he fight and shock the world with an Aces & 8′s takeover from within? The bout itself played as it should have.

Kurt Angle Vs. AJ Styles – BFG Series Qualifier

Analysis: It’s set in stone that AJ Styles will challenge for the world title, so a win in order to qualify for the BFG Series is an obvious booking decision. Though questionable on AJ’s part due to interference by the Aces & 8′s, he took advantage of a situation that presented itself to him. The new attitude of AJ works in this case. Regarding the match itself, no changes or adjustments necessary. This match up was superior to the Slammiversary 2013 bout, so these men should be very happy with their work tonight.

AJ Styles should slowly “come to his senses” soon and truly return as The Phenomenal One before challenging for the world title. Coming full circle is key in the end result and that is why AJ Styles takes the victory tonight.

STING
Last week, Sting sent out a tweet following his loss at Slammiversary to Bully Ray stating: “Sunday I was left to fight alone… Message received!”

Some have speculated that this is Sting’s farewell from professional wrestling. Others believe it is Sting sending a clear message that he will no longer be taken advantage of in TNA. Can there also be a possibility that this is a sign of a darker Sting coming for the Aces & 8′s?

Sting can no longer wrestle for the world heavyweight championship in TNA wrestling. Tomorrow’s broadcast will shed some light into Sting’s current predicament: What will happen going forward regarding Sting’s in-ring career and the mindset Sting is in. It was a bold move setting up this kind of stipulation and going forward with it took creative guts. However, Sting will challenge for the world heavyweight title again somehow. Never say never in professional wrestling.

BULLY RAY/ HULK HOGAN/ BROOKE HOGAN
Is Bully Ray true to his word in telling Brooke he still loves her? Does Brooke still love Bully? One thing we know for sure is that Hulk Hogan is still angry as hell and is looking to take Bully out of the equation.

It would appear that Brooke clearly still has feelings for her husband. She even stopped Hogan from knocking Bully out cold in the backstage area at the end of the night. This begs the questions: Was Bully pulling on Brooke’s strings to get into her head and was shocked when she essentially saved him? Was he acting out of relief that his wife may finally be seeing his feelings for her? What about Bully Ray’s proclamation that he wants the Aces & 8′s in the Bound for Glory Series?

There should be clarity in this situation from either Bully or Brooke; something that further pushes Hulk closer to the edge. Bully Ray, as history shows, is playing puppet master with the Hogan family but expect Hulk to have some kind of ace up his sleeve. In Bully Ray’s case, it’s important to establish, or enhance, the dominance held by the Aces & 8′s since the BFG Series is starting to pick up and AJ Styles is not aligned with the Aces. It is believed that Angle is still a factor along with “Rampage” Jackson, so the Aces have alot to worry about.

What better way than to get your professional wrestling career started than by starting it with Kurt Angle? Making his impact last week, expect “Rampage” Jackson to make his presence felt again. Will it be at the expense of Kurt Angle?

Another obvious situation is the status of Angle defending TNA’s honor against the Aces & 8′s. Where is that story? Will “Rampage” get involved with the Aces & 8′s? Is he even under their radar?

Whether or not the Aces have a hand in the Angle/ “Rampage” story, these two need to address the matter. “Rampage” is advertised to appear, so some kind of follow up is expected; either in-ring or backstage meeting between the men. The confrontation last week ended in a handshake, but this was clearly the first blank page of a story which is about to be written.

Other great talent will have a hand in making tomorrow’s Impact Wrestling one to remember. The BFG Series, Mickie James and the Knockouts, all are set to end their time in Duluth on a high note so don’t miss Impact Wrestling tomorrow night. Are you Prepared For Impact!?

That was the intended reaction to the headline of this article. As sure as the sky is blue on a good day, there will certainty be WWE fanboys having a helluva time bringing this article down. However, there simply cannot be a dispute when it comes to the entertainment value provided by each promotion. TNA has been exciting, engaging and fresh. WWE has been lackluster, slow paced and outright boring recently. It looks like the big monster can take a page from the new species of wrestling finally making the right kind of waves.

The past several weeks of WWE Raw and/ or WWE SmackDown television can be reviewed as such:

1) Recap of last week’s show.
2) Alberto Del Rio comes out and tries his best to get the fans behind him.
3) Kane and Daniel Bryan bicker.
4) The Shield have a great match only to either win cleanly or lose by interference.
5) Kane and Daniel Bryan bicker.
6) Sheamus becomes even more TV-Y7, not TV-PG.
7) Randy Orton has a match that, sadly, management and the fans won’t remember.
8) AJ runs around and makes constipated faces (and is getting annoying, quite frankly)
9) Kane and Daniel Bryan bicker.
10) John Cena and/or Ryback say or do some sort of ridiculousness.

Pretty much sums up WWE from recent weeks, yes? The problem with the WWE is they’ve been stuck rehashing and creating new rehashes. Characters are the same and are doing the same things for long periods of time. With the exception of some sparks of excitement here and there, it would appear that the WWE has become somewhat stagnant. They do not see TNA, or any brand for that matter, as a competitor and that is a very dangerous view to take. It wasn’t so much that the WWE adopted an “Attitude” in the later 90′s, but more so that they acknowledged competition at the time in WCW. If the WWE does not acknowledge competition now, how can they inspire themselves to become the creative and entertaining juggernaut that they should be and not what they portray themselves to be?

TNA Wrestling has done the right thing in acknowledging, many times through interviews and business decisions, that there is a competition in professional wrestling. Being the underdog promotion, this inspires and creates a desire to show the world that there is more in professional wrestling than the WWE mentality of what wrestling is.

What has TNA Wrestling accomplished since the beginning of the year?

1) Impact Wrestling has been taken on the road, creating a new live crowd and home viewer experience.
2) The pay-per-view schedule as been greatly altered for the betterment of the product and in building importance for a pay-per-view itself (i.e. the amazing Slammiversary 2013)
3) Multiple storyline swerves and proper build.
4) Wrestling matches and segments with meaning and that are taken seriously.
5) Recent returns that the TNA faithful can stick with and engage further in the product.

Jeff Hardy has returned and is arguably the most popular TNA talent on the roster. Abyss has returned, a face recognized by all TNA fans. AJ Styles has developed a new presence that showcases a new side to The Phenomenal One; placing him in multiple storylines with various talents and skill sets. The Aces & 8′s are evolving, albeit slowly. The Knockouts are portrayed as more than just eye candy, but real wrestlers with real stories to tell.

One of the more annoying aspects of TNA Wrestling is the disappearance of talent followed by a sudden return with no explanation as to why they were gone or what stopped the story they were involved in. On the other side, this also can be a good thing as it keeps the product fresh and faces are thrown in unexpectedly to enhance a given story. When the tag division was beginning to be a bit questionable, Gunner returns. As the X-Division begins to grow again, Suicide returns and Chris Sabin becomes X-Division champion. When it looked like the Knockouts division was starting to slip under the radar, Taryn Terrell and Gail Kim have the best match of Slammiversary 2013 and one of the best matches of 2013 so far, if not the best.

The point being made on TNA’s side is there is always a new face or element involved. This is progression and not forcing a story or character down our throats for weeks, months or even years in the case of WWE.

Both promotions are guilty of under-utilizing talent at times, but TNA is the clear winner in talent and potential between the rosters. Though WWE may have better sports entertainers, TNA has better wrestlers with the sports entertainment skills required to entertain. Being the most important aspect of the show, the majority of TNA talent put their heart in every match and segment. They understand that they are building a brand, marketing themselves and showing the casual wrestling fan (and hardcore wrestling fan) that televised wrestling is changing and the WWE mentality cannot be the best representation of what professional wrestling is.

TNA is better than WWE because in 2013, as their old tagline says, wrestling matters. They are focused on Impact Wrestling and showing the world what a unique roster there is under the TNA umbrella. WWE is focused on expanding and showing the mainstream media that they are more than wrestling. They are cereal endorsements, movie deals, reality TV enthusiasts, etc. This is fine and all companies should aspire to expanding; however, they mustn’t forget what has brought them to the dance in the first place. WWE has become too comfortable in its place on the mountain top castle. The destiny of TNA wrestling is to climb that mountain, knock on the castle door and proclaim: “We’re here”.

Wait a gosh darned Jimmy Hart. Didn’t Hogan call me a clown and want me fired? Well I’m a Pastamaniac and just can’t hate the big bootin’ pasta godfather.

Glorious.

But you know what everyone can relate to? An underdog story. A comeback underdog story. A story that could be applied to many wrestlers today :Jake the Snake Roberts, Ric Flair, maybe even Scott Hall. It’s a story that has been used (to great success too) for Terry Funk over the years, but the story would easily be the best fit for Hogan. Basically Rocky Balboa/6 in which Sylvester Stallone (Hogan’s co-star in Rocky 3) comes out of retirement, trains like never before and has one last crack at the top. He has nothing to prove to anyone, except himself. Substitute Rocky with Hulk/Thunderlips and boxing with wrestling and voila.

It’s 2013 and the man he wanted fired wants him in the squared circle again.

TNA Wrestling made an interesting but understandable decision as they cut back their pay-per-views. They had 10-12 PPVs a year for the past couple of years. While the pay-per-views were good, and bad, the fact is that they weren’t producing. Now, TNA is a private company. We do not know how much money the company is making. We don’t know how many people bought the PPVs. Only TNA knows that. We have to read between the lines though. Cutting PPVs, PPVs that weren’t getting high buyrates, would ultimately save TNA money. Having 4 live PPVs really helps TNA financially, but it also helps with booking. Usually the company would have to rush from month to month to make matches for the next PPV. An example of this is WWE! Now, TNA doesn’t have to rush. They can slow down and really progress their stories. This is exactly what they are doing. That is why there are so many stories going on right now on the show. Beyond that, they progress each month. There’s no rushing.

Let me get back to their PPV model though. TNA announced that they will only have 4 live PPVs in 2013. First is Genesis in January. Lockdown will be in March. Slammiversary will be in June, and Bound for Glory will be in October. We already had three of the four PPVs already. Bound for Glory is the last one. Or is it? As I mentioned above, Hulk told Chris Sabin that he can cash his title in at Destination X. Strangely, there has been no mention of that PPV in the new model. In fact, that was the first time TNA even mentioned that PPV. Has TNA quietly added this PPV? If so, when will they have it?

Last year’s Destination X happened on July 8th. Will TNA be having this PPV in July? If so, it will only be about a month away. That throws everything out the window when you think of PPVs being stretched out in order to build stories. Last year’s PPV was surrounded by a X-Division tournament. The tournament would determine the new X-Division Champion. The former champion would face for the TNA World Title. Technically, this PPV wouldn’t really affect current story lines going on within the show. The only thing that would be affected is the current TNA World Champion and that would be Bully Ray.

I have predicted the following storylines since April and it looks to be falling into place. AJ Styles will go on to face for the TNA World Title at Bound for Glory and that be held by Bully. AJ will win and that will ultimately end the Aces & 8s. Ray has to hold the title till then, but who will he be battling in that time? Jeff Hardy is around, but will that last for 3-4 months? I can see Chris Sabin face Bully Ray as a face vs. heel match rather than a face vs. face match between Chris and Styles. If Chris battles for the title while Ray is champion, I can clearly say that Sabin will not win. Since Hulk mentioned Destination X now, I doubt the PPV will be far away. Why would they make it after Bound for Glory? So, the show has to be before BFG and it certainly has to be in the next month or two.

The other question that comes up is if this is going to be an actual PPV. Someone brought up that it could be a special television episode. Why not? While it will be free, more people will be watching. Don’t forget the money from advertisers!

Destination X is up in the air. I almost get the feeling that TNA brought this up about a month or so ago and decided to have it. They probably know when it will happen, but they probably didn’t know 3-4 months ago. It was a spur of the moment idea, in my mind.

We should start to hear more about Destination X on when it will air and how it will be available. I thought the PPV concept last year was great as it really brings relevance to the X-Division. TNA has been slowly building the division back up, but now they seem to really put it into gear. Finding the answers as to when and how about Destination X is like finding the X on a treasure map. We haven’t hit it yet, but it is so many paces East.

KURT ANGLE
Two time Making An Impact! winner, Kurt Angle is having a great week. On Sunday at Slammiversary, he was announced as the second inductee into the TNA Hall of Fame and won his pay-per-view bout against AJ Styles. This past Thursday on Impact, he interrupted “Rampage” Jackson’s in-ring segment and put out the challenge, turning up the intensity on an already hot night. Next week, Angle will have another shot at AJ Styles in a Bound for Glory series match (spoilers here). Speaking of AJ Styles, let’s not forget that the Angle/ Aces feud is not over, but adding “Rampage” Jackson to the mix will enhance Kurt Angle’s character and story.

Every talent had a hand in making this past Thursday’s Impact Wrestling a great show but Angle truly raised the show’s game. He left yet another impression on the minds of professional wrestling fans in 5 minutes or less of in-ring time. This is a testament to his raw presence and leadership.

QUINTON “RAMPAGE” JACKSON
The excitement since Dixie Carter announced the signing of “Rampage” Jackson reverberated between the worlds of MMA and professional wrestling. Even Jim Ross added his two cents. Jackson is a huge name in MMA and is more known than his counterpart King Mo, so that in itself gave Jackson his place in Making An Impact!

Many in the IWC had reservations, this author included. The reason being that wrestling fans expected a wrestler with John Morrison as a heavy favorite. However, looking at Jackson’s resume and the already established connection between TNA and MMA, it makes alot of good sense. Everyone says that the WWE is a different animal, but TNA is truly a different animal. They are perhaps a new species as they are taking risks that change what professional wrestling can be. Signing Jackson is yet another step in breaking out as a different kind of promotion.

Jackson did not do much on his own this past Thursday, but that’s not a bad thing since this was his first night and the focus was to introduce him to the Impact fans. What Jackson was able to do was make his intentions known, which was the grand point. He wants to become a better athlete, he wants to face the best and he won’t back down. This was evident in the final moment with Kurt while shaking his hand and Jackson staring a hole into him. Angle clearly showed signs of trepidation (watch the entire segment from Impact Wrestling’s YouTube channel here). After the exchange, the questions are: When will these two have their official match? Is Angle questioning himself by realizing he may have overstepped his bounds? Is Kurt Angle the one that needs to get ready for “Rampage” instead of the reverse?

Kurt Angle is a professional and amateur wrestling juggernaut. “Rampage” Jackson is a hardcore MMA technician. The pure athleticism in this potential bout can really bring TNA Wrestling, an MMA for that matter, to an entirely different place of positivity for everyone involved. If the execution for this potential match is spot on, this may be the pure technical wrestling match of the year.

TNA is often rightfully accused of misusing their belts. In a dream world the TV Title would have the prestige and relevance of the ECW TV Championship or the Intercontinental belt. So it might be perceived as madness when I propose TNA should bring in another belt but hear me out. 

The X-Division, Tag Team and Knockout belts are relevant because they are actual divisions for specific type of wrestlers. The cruiserweights and high-flyers in the X-Division, female wrestlers in the Knockouts etc. Ideally the TV title would cater to the mid-card and stars on the rise. There is simply no division for the extreme and hardcore specialty types and I feel this is a huge hole in the market that TNA is missing out on.

There are plenty of wrestlers currently within TNA’s rank that could fit into this division, Team 3D, Abyss and if he chooses to re-sign, RVD. There are also a good number of ECW veterans that can still go the distance and be brought in for reasonable prices, Rhyno, Sabu and Kid Kash being examples. On top of that, there is the modern generation of hardcore wrestlers from around the world that could be brought in cheaply. I would love to see the likes of Ruckus, MASADA and Jun Kasai in TNA and this is a viable way to do so. MASADA against Tommy Dreamer and/or Raven in a old school versus new school type feud would be great fun.

While the WWE Hardcore belt descended into skit comedy towards the end and the WCW Hardcore belt was forgotten about and literally dropped in the trash, if TNA were to dedicate the airtime and effort into a Hardcore belt, it could be as well regarded and important as the X-Division belt. Heck, with Destination X the X-Division PPV, Hardcore Justice could be fully fleshed out as the hardcore PPV, with the main event an annual barbed wire match. Hardcore wrestling is something WWE won’t and can’t do and TNA would be wise to exploit the market. By retiring the Knockout Tag Team Championships, TNA wouldn’t be guilty of having too many belts with such a smaller roster too.

It was officially announced on June 4^th that Dixie Carter’s “big free agent” signing was that of acclaimed MMA fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion made his first appearance on TNA programming last night, as he indicated his determination to beat the best in the company. The statement got the attention of Kurt Angle, with The Cyborg even teasing a match between the two somewhere down the line.

Rampage is one of two MMA fighters under TNA contracts, the other being King Mo, who has been used sporadically ever since he joined the promotion in May 2012. Nevertheless, the first attempts at attracting viewers from the world of Mixed Martial Arts took place as early as 2008, when Frank Trigg was brought in as an on-screen character and match analyst. Does TNA believe that the future of pro wrestling lies in the partnership with combat sports? As I recently discussed in an article for WWENews.net, “yes” would be the answer given by some, including former TNA star Nigel McGuinness. With that said, how big can the acquisition of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson turn out to be?

The first thing which has to be noted is that Rampage is by far the biggest non-wrestler to work for TNA. No disrespect towards King Mo intended, but his mainstream appeal fades in comparison to that of Quinton Jackson. In addition to his achievements in the UFC, he was named the 2007 Fighter of the Year by Sherdog and he has also made his mark in cinema, replacing Mr. T in the 2010 remake of The A-Team. His deal with TNA Wrestling has already received tons of media attention and has turned heads towards the second largest wrestling promotion in America. In many ways, Rampage is already a more successful publicity stunt than the likes of King Mo and NFL player Adam “Pacman” Jones back in 2007.

What is far more intriguing at this point is what the plans are for Rampage now that he already has a sort-of feud going on. When it comes to picking the right opponent, Kurt Angle is the obvious choice. Not only is he the only Olympic gold medalist in the history of professional wrestling, but he is an innovator in technical and realistic ring work. His style is a mixture of influences, ranging from amateur wrestling to MMA, which Angle has been a long time fan of. If anyone can bring the best out of Rampage, it is the newly inducted Hall of Famer.

One contest in particular has already served as the groundbreaker for realistic combat-based pro wrestling and it is the Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe bout from 2008’s Lockdown. Wade Keller of the Pro Wrestling Torch stated “it felt fresh with the MMA-style, and meshed just enough pro wrestling moves in a largely believable fashion with typical (and some not-so-typical) MMA submissions throughout in dramatic fashion. It’s really a stellar example of how the two styles could mesh to create a more modern, believable approach for the current era.” What impressed me the most about the match was that the contrast between the two styles was used as a pace changer in a way which helped convey the story told through the manoeuvres. The bout began very much as a traditional MMA fight which eventually became more dynamic and wrestling-like. Lockdown 2008 was a confident step in the MMA direction, if you will, for pro wrestling.

Despite the widespread acclaim of Angle and Joe’s Lockdown encounter, the history of MMA involvement on TNA programming is one of controversy. After the waters had been tested, fighter and color commentator Frank Trigg faced AJ Styles in what was billed as a “Mixed martial arts match”. As opposed to the Lockdown contest, neither of the two competitors seemed in touch with where the balance point between wrestling and MMA was, making it a train wreck as a result.

While it is hard to predict the long-term effect of the involvement of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson” in wrestling, as well as that of any other MMA star for that matter, some things we know for sure. Angle vs. Joe has made it evident that Mixed Martial Arts can be incorporated into wrestling to produce fresh, realistic yet dramatic matches. On the other hand, Trigg vs. Styles has taught us that the amount of preparation necessary when a fighter is entering a wrestling ring is not to be underestimated. As Jim Ross commented on TNA’s deal with Rampage, “training a 35 year old to be a pro wrestler isn’t easy and takes a full time effort”.

I believe that provided the dedication is there, Quinton Jackson can help TNA in taking the next step in the evolution of wrestling. The Angle-Rampage collaboration could prove to be extremely innovative for the development of the business… as long as Jackson satisfies the requirement for “full time effort”.

Rampage is currently under a Bellator contract and it is very likely that any work for TNA would be out of question if he has a fight coming up. In addition, Spike TV and he are currently working on the production of a reality show, and he has not given up on his acting career either. How hopeful can we be that TNA is not going to take a backseat to Rampage’s other projects? More importantly, if Bobby Lashley had to ask for his release back in 2010 in order to fully focus on his MMA career, why do we assume wrestling would rank higher on Rampage Jackson’s list of priorities?

Analysis: A solid one on one match between tag team partners. There were a few spots that should have looked better, but the end result was reached and the right talent picked up the win. Though Chavo Guerrero is a veteran and even a legend in professional wrestling, Hernandez fits the bill as a possible heavyweight championship contender. The only issue is drawing power.

The hot Atlanta crowd was solidly behind Hernandez tonight, but we’ve also seen how apathetic the crowd can be. Hernandez is not able to carry the TNA brand and represent it as its champion. To get to that level, there should be an adjustment to the Hernandez character or management needs to finally trust that character. Despite that, Hernandez is deserving of atleast an opportunity to show management what he can do and the BFG Series is a great place to show off. As far as tonight’s match, it played out as it should have.

Analysis: This match was clearly an attempt to use Robbie E and enhance Samoa Joe. The Samoa Joe faithful have been pushing for a chance to get into the world title scene.

Samoa Joe takes the win as, quite frankly, he is the more credible and deserving of the two competitors tonight. Joe has been through many ups and many, many downs in TNA Wrestling so a chance to be visible is extremely important in order to be taken seriously again. The booking of the match is really a no brainer and no deep analysis is needed.

Analysis: If any changes to the booking had to have been made for this one, it would be that this should have been the opening contest. Heat up the already hot Atlanta crowd.

The 2 hour broadcast was already loaded and Aces & 8′s heavy, so the best way to utilize 6 of the most talented men in the business is to let them have at it in a 6 man tag match. The goal of this match up, aside from showcasing the talents of these men, was to generate even more hype for the newly crowned tag teams champions and X-Division champion. It would be extremely questionable booking to have the new champions go under, atleast not this week. Sabin and Gunner are back and Storm is a champion again so build on their successes. Have strong champions on the program that others will want to topple because of the credibility factor. The match itself was fantastic and not a spot needed changing.

Analysis: Respect has to be given to Taeler Hendrix tonight, though her game was a bit off. Instead of Hendrix, however, Mickie James should have been booked with a Knockout such as Miss Tessmacher (wherever she may be) to build on her new found persona and gain some points with a win. Taeler Hendrix may not have been the right choice and the crowd was a little quieter for this match up. The “YES” chants and “CENA SUCKS!” chants were clearly not directed at this match up.

In analyzing TNA’s perspective, Mickie James is claiming to be a fighting champion but runs when Velvet Sky challenges her. Instead, Mickie James will face a rookie and get the easy win. For heel development, this is classic and does work in the grand scheme of things. However, this can also work with an already established Knockout who would not be hurt by a loss to James. Either way, James would pick up the win for development of her character but the match up was another Mickie James moment to forget.

In order for Bully and Hardy to stay hot coming off respective wins at Slammiversary, the no contest decision was the best way to end the match. The lingering mystery, however, was Mr. Anderson. If you watched Impact Wrestling and saw the backstage exchange between Bully and Anderson, you will see my point.

The no contest decision stays but after an attack and save from Mr. Anderson. Jeff Hardy has the hammer and is ready to strike Bully Ray when Mr. Anderson attacks Hardy from behind. The two beat on Hardy until he begins a comeback, picks up the hammer and hits Anderson out cold. Bully is mortified at seeing Anderson knocked unconscious and fleas the arena as the broadcast version did with the final Hogan/ Brooke/ Bully segment closing the show.

Hey guys! Sorry it has taken me so long to get this up here. It has been a very busy week since Sunday. Where should I start? Slammiversary was awesome. It seems to be getting great reviews across the board and mine will be no different. I personally thought Slammiversary was one of the best wrestling PPVs I’ve seen in a long time.

When I arrived at the arena there was a long line of fans waiting to get in but the line moved fast. Soon enough my girlfriend and I were inside where we found our seats. At about 7:05 pm we noticed applause going around the arena and when we looked down at the floor we noticed Dixie Carter. Dixie walked out on to the floor and started shaking fans hands and taking pictures. It wasn’t long before a very long line of people formed. Many people waited in line to meet Dixie and take a picture. I thought this was very classy of Dixie. She doesn’t have to do that but the fact that she spent almost an entire hour meeting fans and thanking them personally for coming out to the show says a lot about the brand and their dedication to the fans.

We waited in line for about 45 minutes to get snacks so I missed the announcer intros. I made it back to my seat just in time for Ultimate X. The arena had a decent amount of people in it. The 3 sections across from me were empty. The section with the hard camera had only a few staff members working the two sections on either side were both tarped off. It definitely wasn’t a sell out but all of the other sections were pretty packed and the crowd was very enthusiastic. I would say the arena was 3/4th full. Anyway let’s get to it.

Ultimate X Suicide VS Chris Sabin VS Kenny King

This was a great way to start the show. Right from the beginning Sabin was the obvious favorite. I’m not sure how it came across on TV but the crowd was fully behind him the whole time. There were a few Kenny King fans here and there and Suicide got a decent reaction as well. The action was good though no the best Ultimate X match I’ve ever seen. It seemed like most of the work was grounded here I expected there to be a lot more high flying moves but I wasn’t disappointed. By the time it was obvious Sabin was going to win everybody went crazy. Everyone was happy with the Sabin win and all things considered this was a great match and a great way to start the show.

Chris Sabin then made his way up the entrance ramp when Hogan made his way out. Say what you want about Hogan but man does that guy know how to electrify a crowd. As soon as the music hit the whole place jumped right to their feet and started with the Hogan chants. You could barely hear what he was saying over the chants. Hogan did a great job here of putting Chris Sabin over and really talked him up which I thought was nice. He announced that Sabin would have a chance like Aries to cash in the X-Division title for a shot at the World Title this summer which everyone clapped loudly for. I loved that idea last summer and was scared that they were just going to totally drop it so it was nice to see that it seems to be a tradition that will carry on.

Hogan then made his way to the ring and started talking to a kid in the crowd dressed like Macho Man who I’m convinced was a plant. As soon as he said the words Macho Man Aces & 8s music hit and they made their way to the ring.

I have got to say I really enjoyed the banter here between Bischoff, Brisco, Anderson and Hogan. Maybe I’ve been watching WWE for far too long but it was beyond refreshing to hear Hogan call Aces & 8s a bunch of “pussies” and tell Bischoff he was a “little bitch”. The crowd popped huge for the name calling and I definitely did the same. This segment really did a great job of expressing the hatred between Hogan and Aces & 8s. Hogan announced the 6 man tag match would start right away which I though was interesting because I could have sworn it was supposed to include DOC and not Anderson. Either way I’ll take Anderson over DOC any day.

When the faces made their entrance Magnus got a decent pop. Samoa Joe got a huge pop he was very over in Boston and the crowd was happy to have him there. As good as Joe’s pop was it was nowhere near the reception Hardy got. When Jeff made his way down the ramp the applause was deafening.

Aces & 8s VS Jeff Hardy, Samoa Joe and Magnus

Pretty decent match here. It kept the pace of the PPV nicely and the crowd was glued to the action. The crowd heckled Bischoff and Brisco quite a bit. There were quite a few Anderson fans in the crowd so whenever he was in the ring you heard people saying positive things about him. As was to be expected Magnus and Joe had some great tag team action and Hardy gave it his all. The crowd stayed hot for this match the whole time and were very excited with the faces winning. Another great match here for Slammiversary.

Jay Bradley VS Sam Shaw

Not to be negative but I used this as my bathroom break match as did many other people. I got back to hear Jay Bradley tell Christy Hemme he was going to be TNA World Champ someday. He got no reaction. No one seemed to care. Still don’t understand why they didn’t get the spot to Christian York but hey what do I know?

Earlier we got a video package of Aces & 8s beating up Joseph Park so it was obvious we would get Abyss in his place.

TV Title Match Abyss VS Devon

When Abyss’ music hit the place went nuts. It was really cool to see him stomp towards the ring. This match ended up being a nice little brawl that was pretty short. Nothing spectacular here but it got the job done. Nice to see Abyss return and nice to see him win the TV Title. I’m hoping the title gets defended regularly and Abyss continues to be a force against Aces & 8s.

Next up Dixie Carter came out and told us she was going to announce the next inductee in to the TNA Hall of Fame. She called the whole roster out to the stage of which about 3/4 came out. She did a little speech and invited Kurt Angle to the ring. When Kurt made his way to the ring we got a video package hyping him as a Hall of Fame inductee. It was a very emotional moment. Kurt and Dixie held hands while they watched the video.

After the video Kurt gave a great and heartfelt speech about his career. It is very safe to say Boston loves Kurt Angle. He talked about how he had many memories in the city and can’t wait to create more. Kurt has had an amazing career. I’m proud to say I saw him win King of The Ring in Boston. Angle is going to leave a great legacy behind and a big part of that for me is the fact that he could leave TNA at any time to return to WWE for more money but he doesn’t. Instead Kurt stays to help build the brand and try to get great matches out of lesser known talent. I think Kurt has been a huge driving force in pushing TNA forward and this Hall of Fame induction will be well deserved.

On a side note during the video package everyone on the stage turned around and watched except Joe. Joe didn’t turn around once to watch the video which I thought was a little strange. While Kurt was giving his speech everyone was very respectful and paid attention to every word but Kazarian just wandered around the corner of the stage like a kid kicking rocks. It was awkward and a little disrespectful but I’m not one to judge.

Tag Team Championship Match Austin Aries and Bobby Roode VS Gunner and Storm VS Bad Influence VS Chavo and Hernandez

Up next was the tag match which everyone was pretty excited for. I can’t remember exactly but I believe Bad Influence came out first. I do remember that Bad Influence got a huge pop. Everyone loved them here in Boston. Even earlier when they were cutting promos on screen they were getting a great reaction from the crowd. Roode and Aries made their way out to another great pop. Aries is as over as they come. Storm and Gunner got a decent reaction but not quite as loud as the first two teams. When the music hit for Chavo and Hernandez that got massive boos. They took it in stride and made their way to the ring with confidence.

This was a great match. Any time Aries made his way in to the right it was like an automatic reaction from the crowd to start a loud Austin Aries chant and everyone joined in right away. It was funny how hard the crowd booed Chavo and Hernandez because they impressed quite a few people with this match. Even though the crowd jeered them initially I think Chavo and Hernandez got the most applause when they hit their big moves. No one was happy to see Bad Influence eliminated but it was exciting when it came down to the last two teams knowing we would get new tag champs. A great showing by everyone here and Storm got a great reaction when hyping up his Last Call Superkick. Nice finish with the Torture Rack. This was another great match and a serious contender for match of the night.

Last Knockout Standing Match Gail Kim VS Taryn Terrell

No secret here EVERYONE has been talking about this match. It was awesome to see the transition the crowd made during this match. I heard a few people in my section talking about how boring this match was and how they just wanted the chicks to get naked. These girls really turned it around. By the end of the night they were getting a standing ovation. This is the only womens match I’ve ever seen get a “Holy Shit” and “This Is Awesome” chant. From the halfway point up to the end the crowd was wild for this match. Gail and Taryn took some serious bumps and I knew Gail could bring it but Taryn was beyond impressive. It was nice to see Taryn get the win because that made a lot of sense given the nature of their feud. Standing ovation for both ladies in what could have very easily been called the match of the night.

AJ Styles VS Kurt Angle

Angle came out to another huge pop as we awaited the arrival of AJ. I was pretty bummed out to see that he had changed his entrance music because I think his previous song was one of the best in the business…oh well. This match started off a little slow and the crowd was pretty burnt out from going crazy all night but everyone still managed to stay loud. No one really cared who was winning as both guys got cheered equally and frequently. Everyone was just happy to be watching a match between two of the best in the business. Like I said the match started slow but it really started to get impressive during the 2nd half and the crowd really started to get in to it. I was very surprised by the AJ loss but like I said no one seemed to mind as everyone was just happy to witness a great match. Both guys got a standing ovation. This was another great match but I feel like I expected a little more from both guys. Maybe I just hyped it up to myself too much. Regardless it was still a real treat to watch.

Before the main event we got a video promo of Bully Ray telling Sting he was going to use the piledriver to break his neck. This video really hyped up the intensity of the match and got everyone pumped.

World Title Match Sting VS Bully Ray

Out first came Sting and the only thing I can say about his entrance is that it is very iconic. I’ve been to a lot of wrestling events and you know when you are witnessing the entrance of a legend and this was definitely one of those moments. I can see why Sting says it is hard for him to walk away as he has a very special bond with the crowd. When Bully Ray’s music hit  and the crowd started paying attention to his entrance Sting talked to fans in the front row from the ring. This was cool to see. It is a different vibe at a TNA show. I just don’t feel as much of a separation between the performers and the crowd. It seems like everyone is a part of the show.

Sting and Bully wasted no time going right for it and this match was a brawl. Great showing here by both guys that really sold the intensity of this feud. I had half expected Brooke to interfere and help Bully win. When she came out I just figured that was what would happen so I was happy to see it didn’t go down that way. When Bully grabbed the knife to cut up the ring apron everyone looked on in shock. The piledriver spot on the bare wood of the ring was absolutely brutal and one of the coolest spots I’ve ever seen. These two had the crowd in the palm of their hand. I figured Bully would retain and it makes the most sense that he did. Sting put up a good effort in his last title match. The ending with the Aces & 8s beatdown was sold perfectly. All of the little kids in the audience (which there weren’t half as many as a WWE show I was very surprised it was mostly adults) were crying their eyes out both during and after the beatdown. I don’t mean this in a mean way but it was awesome to see kids crying over a wrestling show because it means the performers sold it the best they could. Everyone stayed until they saw Sting get walked to the back. He got another standing ovation.

All things considered I really thought this was a great show. This was in my opinion the best wrestling PPV so far this year. TNA really cares about their fans and that really comes across well at their live shows. They have made a much bigger fan out of me and next time they make it up this way I will definitely attend.

and as to be expected people just ripped on TNA. It is really starting to get to me lately because the arguments against TNA are so pointless right now. It is usually just WWE marks who don’t even watch the show saying it is terrible. If people just gave TNA a chance they would see that it is actually a pretty good product. Even my girlfriend who HATES TNA and refuses to even watch it when I put it on absolutely loved the show and said she is now a fan. Like I told her, she would have been a fan sooner if she just gave it a fair chance. I hope more people give the brand a fair chance in the future because I’m enjoying it a lot more than WWE right now. I’ve been watching wrestling for about 20 years WWE,ECW,WCW and TNA. Whatever I could get my hands on I’ve watched. With that being said I will always be a fan of WWE but it is at the lowest point I have ever seen it as far as quality right now. Raw this past Monday wasn’t even watchable (with the exception of Daniel Bryan) and was the first time I actually turned it off before it was over.

I’m hoping there are good things in TNA’s future because the wrestling world needs competition. Both brands need competition to inspire them to put on a better show. I feel like both brands could be putting on a better show at the moment but I think TNA feels the same way and is making a very focused effort to do just that and Slammiversary was huge step in the right direction.

Prior to the stellar PPV that was Slammiversary, IWC fans had their opinions on match of the night. They were tossing up between the four-way elimination tag, the X-division match and AJ Styles vs Kurt Angle. But no one, and I mean no one thought that the Knockouts would steal the match. I have to give huge props to Taryn Terrell and Gail Kim for putting on a great match, and possibly the best female wrestling match all of time.

I wasn’t sold on Taryn’s ability, or her personality, before Slammiversary. I am now. When she defeated stars like Tara and Gail Kim on previous Impacts, I thought her wins were undeserving and wasn’t too thrilled about her push over the likes of Gail Kim, Mickie James and ODB. But she did an amazing job at Slammiversary. Her counterpart, Gail Kim, was simply amazing. She took huge bumps all night, suffered a loss to a rookie, and put Taryn over in a big way. You want female wrestling to be taken seriously and get noticed? Take a leaf out of Gail’s book. This match goes to show why she is the greatest female wrestler in the world at this moment.

And the gimmick. Many fans might not have known what the stipulation for this match was, seeing as it was only added 3 days before the PPV. Originally scheduled to be a singles match, it was changed to a Last Knockout Standing match, obviously a clever twist to an already established match. I didn’t think much about the gimmick match. Usually with the guys, especially the heavyweight superstars, a Last Man Standing can be quite a dry, slow match. It’s been overused and killed, in my opinion, in the WWE… As Alex has talked about before, a Last Man Standing is the perfect way to end a feud, and it served this purpose to finish the Gail Kim/Taryn Terrell saga on Sunday in Boston. It worked great! Seeing the girls take unexpected and awesome shots at each other was fantastic, and you could tell how much the crowd was into this match.

The Knockouts division is an exciting place to be right now! On the horizon we have what looks like a very possible Mickie James/Velvet Sky feud, which if booked right could be really intriguing. Now I’m expecting Knockout gimmick matches at future PPVs, instead of the usual singles match for the Championship. I liked that at Slammiversary the Knockouts branched out and went for a grudge angle, instead of just the one match for the Knockouts Championship. So, TNA, now that you’ve set the bar, and you know exactly what the fans want, there’s no turning back. Show us what the Knockouts have got!

Gail Kim and Taryn Terrell competed in a Last Knockout Standing match at Slammiversary. The result was one of the best performances of the year so far, if not the best performance. Though Taryn Terrell picked up the win, both came out of their match as winners. In my years as a professional wrestling fan, I have never seen a women’s wrestling match in the U.S. with a crowd chanting “HOLY S#*T!!, HOLY S#*T!!” or “THIS IS WRESTLING! (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap) THIS IS WRESTLING!”. It was a proud moment for Gail Kim and Taryn Terrell, but also a proud moment for women’s wrestling.

Members of the IWC, this author included, are embarrassed at the state of women’s wrestling in this day and age. WWE has the Divas and proclaim that they are “smart, sexy and powerful”, yet their screen time and matches are usually 5 minutes or less with entrances. I exaggerate but there is a lack of respect for the Divas division in the WWE.

Let’s not forget that Gail Kim was treated horribly in the WWE in regards to match/ screen time and quality storylines. She even eliminated herself from a Diva’s Battle Royal, an elimination that no one noticed in the back. The circumstances are mind numbing and shows the “commitment” the writers have to women’s wrestling. Taryn Terrell, as Tiffany, was the GM of ECW, but her potential was incredibly underused. She was eventually irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Fast forward with Gail resigning with TNA and she is Knockouts champion upon returning. She hasn’t stopped since. Taryn Terrell signs and in just a few matches, has a nearly perfect Last Knockout Standing match at a major pay-per-view.

TNA wrestling, though not innocent of their transgressions against the Knockouts either, still recognize the Knockouts as important assets to the company and have respect for their heritage. They allowed Gail Kim and Taryn Terrell to steal the show from the boys. These two are prime examples of not just women’s wrestlers, but wrestlers who, when given the opportunity, will show up everyone else. World champion included.

I’m reminded of the moment Edge, Christian and The Hardy Boys were in a WWE ring after their TLC match to congratulate each other and received a standing ovation. To see a moment like that on Impact Wrestling would be a special moment for these two women who sacrificed themselves for our entertainment. Receiving love and appreciation from the wrestling fans. Will that happen? Most likely not. But hopefully there is a proper segment and/ or match between these two in order to acknowledge their commitment to each other and to their match on Sunday. Also, to elevate them higher in the Knockouts division so the next time they have a stellar match up, it will be to crown either one as the Knockouts champion. On Sunday, they both proved worthy to be called champion.

This Thursday will feature the debut of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. It is sure to be a moment in TNA and MMA history. Bully Ray and the Aces & 8′s will further impose their will on TNA wrestling and surely get into the head of Sting, as he can no longer battle for the world title again. AJ Styles and Kurt Angle will continue their feud until one of them knocks sense into the other. As the men showcase their talents for the majority of the night, remember this when watching Impact Wrestling tomorrow night and going forward: the most exciting part of a fight is the Knockout.

One casual wrestling friend asked me about Kurt’s age and he stated that someone said to him that Kurt is in his prime. It doesn’t matter his age because he can still work to perfection. He is arguably the best wrestler in the world… and possibly the best ever! He started his in-ring career with WWE in 1999 and lasted till 2006. He then transitioned to TNA and has been with them since 2006. He had a 7 year career in WWE and he is in his 7th year with TNA. A WWE guy or TNA guy? That’s besides the point. He has been with TNA for 7 years and he has had some amazing rivalries. He has fought almost every member of the TNA roster, but I’m going to narrow down his time to 5 major stories.

5. AJ Styles

When Kurt Angle first came to TNA, everyone was thinking of the possible matches they would see. Of course AJ Styles’ name was brought up. Surprisingly, these two never main evented Bound For Glory. In fact, these two really didn’t cross paths till 2008 when The Angle Alliance was formed as AJ Styles would be part of it. These two wouldn’t last long together as they fought against each other at Slammiversary in 2008. They would fight on and off for the next 4 years. One of their most memorable matches was on the January 4th, 2010 Impact Wrestling as that show competed directly against Monday Night Raw. In 2012, both teamed up and won the TNA Tag Team Championships at Slammiversary. These two have history together. They teamed with each other and fought with each other. They just went at it again at Slammiversary XI. It doesn’t matter when these two fight. They are all matches that are labeled “Must see”!

4. Samoa Joe

Who can forget this epic rivalry? I know I can’t. I remember exactly how it played out. Kurt Angle made his debut on Impact in 2006 and met Joe in the ring face to face. This was the “Headbutt heard around the world”. The Impact Zone erupted. The audience at home jumped out of their seat. TNA is getting real interesting now! Kurt went on to beat Joe at Genesis 2006 where he ended his undefeated streak. These two went on to fight in an Ironman match and then later on in a Six Sides of Steel Match. Their story was epic. It was all about being the best. The title was thrown in and you had a main event for the ages. They were in each other’s eyes for years and years. While they did team up time to time, they were never really considered the best of friends. Each wanted to prove why they were the best in the company. They are on the same side now battling Aces & 8s, but I’m sure we did not see the last of these two fighting each other.

3. Jeff Jarrett

This rivalry in TNA has been my personal favorite. One word describes these two: Personal! It all started from one guitar shot to the head of Angle. It would escalate to Jeff marrying Angle’s former wife. These two fought at Bound for Glory IV with Jeff claiming the victory. It wouldn’t be the last though. They would fight again at Genesis 2009. At this time, each star would mention their opponent’s family on television on a weekly basis. At this time, it was announced that Jeff and Karen Angle have been seeing each other. TNA had to make a tough decision and made Jeff take a leave of absence. While the story on television brought out some anger, frustration and other emotions, Kurt went on record to say that he enjoyed this rivalry because he could see his kids each week. Karen would be at the tapings and he would take his kids to the amusement parks in Orlando. Their rivalry was brought back in 2011 with the whole Immortal storyline. The real-life drama ended, but the intensity was still there. This was one rivalry, at that time, that really felt personal… and it was!

2. Main Event Mafia

The Main Event Mafia could have been the best creation from TNA in their history. The group consisted of Booker T, Sting, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner and Kurt Angle as he led the group. This was known as the greatest assembly of talent in wrestling history. This monster heel group began in 2008, as Kurt ended his feud with Jeff the same year. This group dominated week in and week out. The only way the group could be taken out is from the inside out. Well, corruption occurred between Sting and Kurt Angle. Sting took control of the group in 2009 where he defeated Kurt at Sacrifice. Kurt expelled Sting from the group and he became the leader once again. While the group feuded with the biggest stars like AJ and Bobby Lashley, the stars in the group started to dissolve. Brooker T left the company and the group fell apart and Kurt started to promote the younger stars.

1. Sting

When Kurt rose to stardom in early 00s, people thought we would never see Kurt Angle vs. Sting. Sting left wrestling after WCW. He never went to WWE where Kurt was making his mark. Sting came to TNA before Kurt, so once Kurt entered the company, the chance of Kurt vs. Sting was now a possibility. The sound of that is a dream match. The set-up between these two was explained above, with the whole Main Event Mafia angle. These two both wanted power. They fought in an empty arena just to prove that they were better and wanted control of the group. They actually had an encounter before this though. They wrestled in 2007′s Bound for Glory for the TNA World Title. Sting beat Kurt but Kurt ended up winning the title back several weeks later. They would cross paths again. The mere fact that these two wrestled each other is just awesome.

Kurt had success everywhere. He made matches into classic. He turned young stars into gold. He has proved why he is the best in the ring, but his career is not over yet. While he will be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame, he has a lot in the tank left. You certainly do not want to miss anything involving him because he is in the best shape he has ever been in years!

The HOWEL is coming to iMPACT Wrestling! The news broke early this afternoon, revealing that Jackson has signed a multi year deal with Spike TV, Bellator Fighting, and TNA iMPACT Wrestling. Rampage will have his own reality series on Spike that will lead up to his debut fight in Bellator, plus he will be added to our favorite wrestling roster!

There’s no denying this is huge news as Jackson is a huge star in the world of mixed martial arts, and has created quite a brand for himself with his over the top personality, and roles in movies like The A-TEAM, and Miss March. Rampage has also been a huge ratings draw for UFC, his season as a coach on Ultimate Fighter was the highest rated season in the shows history, he’s also had some of the most watched fights in MMA history. The man can draw a crowd, that’s for sure, but the question is can he draw a crowd in pro wrestling?

As die hard wrestling fans we all know that this beast we love is a very different kind of beast. It is unlike any other kind of sport or entertainment facilitator. Our fans are more hardcover than any other. If we like you your ok, if we don’t you have no chance of ever being successful. This means TNA must be very careful in how they handle this move. Done right this really could be the boost TNA needs to reach that next level, done poorly and this could cost TNA some much needed legitimacy and respect. That is something TNA can’t afford to have happen.

Then there’s a question of what about King Mo? Where does this leave him? Obviously Rampage is a bigger name and draw, but what about the time and effort that’s already been spent on him? Do we just forget about the King? Or are we seeing the start of the next big revolution in wrestling? Is crossover MMA and pro wrestling stars the wave of the future? It’s very possible. It’s long been said in pro wrestling that there’s a trend with the other 2 big wrestling countries; The U. S. is in the middle, with Mexico being 6 years behind us and Japan being 6 years ahead of us, if this is the case, then get ready, because Japan has been using crossover stars for years. Plus let us not forget where Eric Bishoff got the best idea of his career the NWO. It came right from Japan. Does EB have enough left in the tank to make this one just as successful?

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered as we begin a journey into a new chapter for TNA and possibly a new and exciting chapter in pro wrestling. Maybe the biggest one being “Is Rampage Jackson the right guy for the job?” Only time will tell. No matter what level of success this move brings, one thing is for sure…. This will be fun to see unfold

I won’t get into the IWC and their habitual complaining when it comes to already established stars main eventing when “their time has passed”. Sting still has fight in him. If anyone doesn’t see that, then there is a problem that needs to be addressed internally as a wrestling fan. Now, on to tonight’s program.

THE BUILD
Sting has been world champion countless times and one question is, what does he gain from winning the title tonight? Realistically, he has not been built up as a threat to the Aces & 8′s. A nuisance and a strong adversary without question, but not a threat to the group and the world champion. Bully Ray has been booked to show confidence in the face of “The Icon”, even playing mind games in having Sting agree to tonight’s stipulation (if he loses, he will no longer challenge for the world title). Let’s also not forget that AJ Styles has arguably been the talk of the town, overshadowing the importance of Sting’s possible loss. Based on these facts and assumptions, the question is asked again: What does Sting gain from winning the title tonight? Not much, as he will not be the center of the war against the Aces & 8′s and a title win may play second fiddle to the AJ Styles saga.

ACES & 8′S/ THE FUTURE OF TNA
It is still much too early for Bully to lose his title. With the Bound for Glory Series coming up, it would makes the most sense to have Bully drop the gold at Bound for Glory. A world title win by Sting, even if TNA were to put the gold back on Bully, would cause disruption and destroy the credibility of Bully Ray as world champion. What are we made to believe? That the Aces & 8′s are powerful and are in control. If Sting were to defeat Bully for the gold at this stage in the game, it gives off the impression that anyone can possibly beat Bully at any given time. The Aces will look weak and Bully Ray weaker.

To further the dominance of the Aces and truly build towards Bound for Glory, Bully Ray needs to be champion up until October, at the minimum. It would be quite a site and celebration for the long title reign of Bully Ray and the dominance of the Aces & 8′s to end at the hands of, most likely, the wild card AJ Styles. Haters of the Aces & 8′s would drool over the monumental moment and TNA faithful would have a champion that is literally phenomenal. The title coming back to TNA around the waist of a talent such as AJ Styles would make even the most jaded TNA viewer happy again. AJ Styles has that attitude and skill set that Sting no longer has. He can carry the company on his back effortlessly. This is not an AJ Styles love fest, this is a realistic view of the best way for the Aces & 8′s story to unfold. Like it or not IWC, there’s a bigger picture being painted and Bully has to be world champion leaving Slammiversary tonight. There’s another matter that also needs to be addressed…

JEFF HARDY
Jeff Hardy returns to action tonight at Slammiversary and is thrown into a 6 man tag with Samoa Joe and Magnus against members of the Aces & 8′s. Let’s not forget that Jeff Hardy was dismantled by Bully Ray and the Aces & 8′s, so where does he fit in this grand puzzle?

If AJ Styles is destined to defeat Bully at BFG, Jeff Hardy should be built back up via the Bound for Glory Series. An amazing bout would be AJ Styles versus Jeff Hardy for a chance to face the world champion. AJ takes the win from Hardy and then the gold from Bully with Hardy challenging Styles for the title afterwards. Hardy is a strong talent and a hell of a worker, despite criticisms here and there from the peanut gallery. As one of the faces of TNA, he should certainly be involved in the world title picture. He doesn’t have to win the title (not at that time anyway) but should be a visible and serious contender. After all, there’s still Bobby Roode to worry about.

Would any of this happen with Sting as the world champion? Sure it can, but it would not be looked at with as much relevance. On the other hand, if Bully were to retain and stay world champion up until Bound for Glory, the stakes would be highest and a deeper interest would be created. We don’t want another era of titles switching hands faster than a turn of the channel. We need credible champions with intense stories and challengers that will hold the attention and minds of the audience.

“So what you’re saying Ric, is that Sting should lose tonight?”

Not at all. Sting can certainly win the bout, but only via countout or disqualification and Bully Ray remaining champion. It would be huge to have Sting actually lose and no longer challenge for the title as that is almost unheard of in professional wrestling. But the importance lies in having Bully retain somehow. His retaining of the gold is important to set the wheels in motion to what can or may lie ahead for TNA and Bound for Glory with all examples stated. The ball is in TNA’s court. Let’s hope they go with the right play and make a slam dunk.

UPDATE 7:41PM EST: Sorry everyone, this is a No Holds Barred match so Sting must either lose or the match be stopped in order for Bully to retain. There is no DQ or countout. Apologies for the oversite.

Since the announcement was made on Thursday, everyone has been buzzing. “Who is the free agent?” TNA is keeping this a secret with all of their might. While I would say it could be a huge star, Dixie does like to give a lot of hype. Hey, hype is great, but sometimes you can’t believe the hype. Sometimes you can. Dixie, in the past, has let some people down in regards to signing stars, but maybe the people are expecting too much. There are names floating around everywhere. In fact, two names who do not have a contract, MVP and Batista commented on the possibility of them being signed. Here is the whole story. I chose four people: Jesse Sherwood, Kendra Bunyon, Gesus Oliver, and Ric Santos. I will give my input too. No one really knows for sure who signed, but we certainly can start throwing names out.

Alex Barie:

When I first read the tweet from Dixie, my mind started to scrabble all of the free agents out there. There are quite a few. Are these “Big” names though? Dixie likes to think that working for WWE makes you a big name. It really doesn’t. Now, I was talking to a friend and he brought up MVP and I thought that he would be a good choice. Then, MVP stated that he is not part of the signing. Now, do we believe him? I sometimes believe Twitter as much as I believe the media. We won’t know until the star is shown. At any rate, it is creating quite a stir in the business. I know Batista said he isn’t the person, but I wouldn’t have picked him either. I can’t suggest Rob Van Dam because he is still under the Impact Wrestling roster. That leads me to John Morrison. John and WWE had some discussions, but they never worked out a deal. John wanted to work less while Vince wanted him to be committed. Dixie, on the other hand, is one of those people who is very lenient. She will give someone a light schedule if they want it. I think John saw TNA as quite an interesting place, but I’m sure he is asking for some good money. Can TNA really fork that out though?

Kendra Bunyon:

I honestly haven’t given much thought to who possibly could be TNA’s hottest new free agent. I understand that they want to get people interested, and talking about who it could be, and I think it’s great that TNA is finally drawing in the IWC and getting them talking. It’s about time! But with both Batista and MVP stating that they are not the ones joining TNA, you have to wonder who that leaves? Most of the names I come up with are either too old to be thought of as really exciting, or tied down to another company. There could be a number of guys from ROH, or or even some who worked with TNA in India, but I’m still not sure any of those guys could be thought of as ‘Big Free Agents’ these days. Honestly, there’s only two guys from the Ring Ka King roster who jump out at me are Chris Mordetzky and Harry Smith. Who does that really leave out in the world of wrestling? Okay, I know there’s many fantastic wrestlers out there, but who do we know that falls into the ‘Big Free Agent’ category? They could be doing what the WWE did with MVP, but I think that would be too much of a stolen storyline. So, I’m going with Jeff Jarrett! What better way to introduce him back to TNA?

Ric Santos:

I found the wording interesting: free agent. Usually “we just signed a new talent” would suffice but free agent is a much more open statement. I can’t recall a WWE release lately, aside from NXT talent, but I don’t see anyone in that group that would be BIG. MVP has stated he is working on something outside of wrestling, so if he were to sign, wouldn’t that put a damper in his plans? RVD would be out of the question, even though he is a big star. The tweet from Dixie makes it out to be a surprise, so re-signing RVD would just be reported as a resigning or flat out stating it is RVD.

Going back to how open “free agent” is, what if its not even a professional wrestler? What if it’s another sports figure TNA believes would contribute to the program? If that’s the case, it’s going to be a disappointing reveal so let’s get away from that. King Mo isn’t making waves as is.

I’m feeling pretty strong about this so I’m going to go with John Morrison. He has a show coming up with FWE Wrestling on 6/21 but after that, I’m not sure if he is booked for anything. Also, this is from his twitter page: “Pro Wrestler, Actor, Fitness Guru, Person… I’m FKA John Morrison- currently a free agent (unemployed); enjoying the Hollywood Shuffle… Behold my tweets!”

Currently a “free agent”. Leaves one to wonder but John Morrison is my pick.

Jesse Sherwood:

Honestly, Dixie Carter has had a propensity to far overestimate what makes a “BIG” name, as a midcard worker in WWE is a huge deal to her. And when I look at the list of “free agent” stars out there at this time, there aren’t very many names that stand out as major household names. And most of those names have come out since the announcement to deny that they were signed. But there has been one person that has been conspicuously silent during this time, RVD. And by silent, I mean stone silent for someone who tweets daily. He hasn’t uttered a single word. And lets face it, he fits Dixie’s criteria of a big star, even though his stock has plummeted in the eyes of many fans after last TNA run. But what this really amounts to is a marketing ploy for TNA. And it has worked. This is all anyone who are fans of TNA are talking about, and even those who hate it are wondering whom could be so big that Dixie had to tease it. If it was a really high profile name, then TNA would have done like they did with Hulk Hogan and held a press conference with them. What it boils down to is TNA is in trouble with their ratings and are pulling out all of the stops to try and stop the slide downwards. TNA had its lowest viewership numbers since they moved back to Thursdays with this last Impact, and had its third set of tapings in a row where the taped show’s ratings slid significantly lower than the live episode. And even though it was announced prior to this week’s episode, it didn’t help as everyone watching at home, even those who don’t read spoilers such as myself, knew it wouldn’t occur on the broadcast. Sadly, though, I don’t think any name will satisfy the majority of people, unless it is someone huge that has been off of the grid for years. Only time will tell.

Gesus Oliver:

After going back and forth watching news rules in and rule out free agents for TNA to sign, I think I have came up with a good choice. Admittedly I was reminded of him after we talked about why MVP shouldn’t be that person. I don’t think MVP is that dumb to sour the great relationship with WWE. There have been many name floating around. I am eager to see what the other writers and readers predict. As we all know Dixie has a habit of hyping this kind of stuff and letting us down with someone underwhelming. I think my pick of John Morrison would be a good fit in TNA. He has the athleticism and could bill him as a “big rock star.” While he isn’t a huge star, he is for TNA. I do have my reserves about Jomo as a fan, yet I know he can wrestle and despite his annoying gimmick is a solid worker. The one fact we can’t over look is that TNA hasn’t leaked this. I hope we can all enjoy being surprised.

NWO: The Revolution DVD

Aces & Eights… Or are we watching the re-run of NWO The Revolution DVD? An intriguing quote, but what can be the statement of intent? The beauty of wrestling is how many things can be interpretated in a variety of ways. Wrestling is one of the few sports to have a strong fanbase pretty much everywhere you go, as stated in a previous article. Different countries have different cultures and have different values, enabling people to view wrestling in many ways. Some appreciate the good vs bad aspects to inspire a family based audience. Others like to look into the wrestling world in more depth as discussed in another previous article. So here’s the question, is it a positive move by TNA to replicate one of the most successful storylines in wrestling history? Hhhmmm…. To me…. It would be…. IF they didn’t emulate everything to do with the NWO.

The trend on the internet, as discussed in one of my previous article, is that Hulk Hogan is unable to deliver a thorough story with the longevity to keep the fans intrigued. This was even envisaged as soon as he entered the Impact zone, with the suspicious experience guard worried about Hulk’s intentions. These suspicions are to do with his perceived selfishness, to keep an elite few, at the top, which was associated with uninspiring storylines ending WCW. The NWO and The Wolf Pac division was a sham all along? Give me a break! Cultivate all of this buzz, it lead to an interesting start for Hulk Hogan in TNA. There were the Hulkimaniacs believing their hero Hulk Hogan has his heart at the right place. While the hardcore wrestling fans, these amazing fans as described in my previous article, were sceptical of Terry Bollea who is notorious to be out there solely for his own gain in the world of wrestling politics. The revelation of the Immortal stable, at the convenient date of 10.10.10, delivered an interesting conclusion about Hulk Hogan. Hogan had caused a buzz in wrestling, which was the reason he was brought into the Impact Zone. But that’s when it started to collapse. Abyss was no longer his unstoppable self, Kurt Angle did a Ric Flair and continued to fight despite his promise that he won’t wrestle again if he loses, and then Jeff Hardy…. He decided to hallucinate that he was Batman saving the creatures of the night against the evil Joker, Sting…. Well… a better analogy is described in a previous article.  In hindsight, Hulk Hogan after delivering a good start, fell short quite abruptly from continuing a good story.

This trip down memory lane, is important, as it became the basis for what Hulk Hogan has been challenged by the wrestling world. Can the wrestler, who has galvanised every single wrestling fan at one time or another, stimulate the ultimate wrestling storyline? The storyline that will continually have the wrestling world mystified in what’s next? Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, The Rock, CM Punk and The Shield, are examples of wrestling affiliations that never fails to draw up attention. These WWE products, need a match, a storyline that continually adapts and changes to maintain interest, rather than being an scintillating novel which once the big finale is revealed, then it’s relatively done and dusted.

Terry Bollea, along with TNA management had to re-invent TNA. The Immortal stable storyline had a short lifespan after the ‘chosen one’ shocked the world at 10.10.10. The calamity suffered by TNA from Jeff Hardy’s drug intake so he could imagine being Thor and regain the world of Asgard from his step brother Lowkey aka Sting (good analogy as Sting was a hero of his,as discussed in the previous article) lead to TNA needing to reinjuvenate their damaged state that became a laughing stock. TNA decided to start off the story with an immediate buzz, carefully choosing an appropriate night. The night after Slammiversary X, the first inductee to TNA’s Hall of Fame, the Icon, Sting, was attacked by masked men. These outsiders, were unknown to the company causing many to ponder about who and why they were there. Sounds familiar? Like when Razor Ramon and Big Diesel invaded Monday Nitro portraying their new, more infamous names of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. The hardcore wrestling fans even speculated that Vince McMahon jr had unleashed the wrestlers to infiltrate wcw and to ruin the company. These 2 bandits like the eventually revealed Aces n Eights, had declared an invasion to the company, aiming to cause a change. They stated that they had affiliations within the company allowing their deceptive actions to be pulled off. In both scenarios, there was a new buzz, with hardcore wrestling fans speculating who were involved. Every possible name was touted, from The Undertaker to the expected Brett Hart back in 1996, were thought to be involved with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. While the names from James Storm to John Morrison were thought to be part of Aces N Eights. Terry, with his experience, knew he had to prolong his strengths by keeping the identities of those involved with Aces N Eights unknown, thus building up the storyline before the eventual finale of knowing who’s who.

After a while, the figureheads of Aces N Eights were discovered, with the removal of their masks, similar to how the NWO members would take off their shirts. The final member revealed during the build up phase of the respective storylines, left the wrestling world bedazzled by the shocking heel turns. It caused the live crowd to throw items into the arena. Unexpected turn of events… Although hardcore wrestling fans had been suspicious of Bully Ray, which I had predicted in a previous article. It did disappoint a lot, whose affection for the supposed misunderstood athlete who had infiltrated the Hogan family, were left disappointed. Although not in the same scale as Hulk Hogan, whose betrayal to WCW, and his fans which was the largest back then. This was a weakness, as the masks were meant to mystify the fans of who was involved, with us knowing who was involved. This had already limited the effectiveness of the storyline.

After all of this, the sense of anonymity was eradicated, which was a major factor that correlated with the efficacy of Aces N Eights. The new challenge for TNA management, was to continue the Aces N Eights storyline that is capable of maintaining efficiency. The problem is, once the Hulk Hogan betrayal against WCW for NWO was eventually comprehended, there wasn’t much for the storyline to expand. What happened, was that the NWO were dismantling WCW repetitively and were acquiring their wrestlers. This had some effectiveness, because it was the first time that wrestling fans had experienced a change of attitude who were used to family entertainment. This whole ideology helped to revolutionise wrestling, along with the Degeneration X faction, that were key figures for the most successful period in wrestling, as noted in a previous article. This isn’t the same luxury that is available today. Wrestling fans have experienced the act of betrayal of an hero to becoming a major heel. In my opinion, what didn’t help matters, was how Bully Ray revealed all of their deceptive tactics and how it was able to be carried well. This should of been divulged more slowly, such as  the storyline of D’Lo Brown getting the young Brisco to survive his Gut Check with the puzzling disappearance of Al Snow. This ensured there was no peculiar aspect with the Aces N Eights. They will have to adapt to a new storyline. However, this hasn’t been the case. The Aces N Eights have resumed their actions of tormenting the Impact Zone. It can be argued that the abuse has been hyperbole, with the entire Impact zone decimated so easily and quickly. It’s similar to how the Aces N Eights were causing havoc when they were masked. Just like the NWO, they were continuing the violence that they were already accustomed to. In addition to already witnessing this before, the wrestling fans nowadays, are used to complex storylines that has a variety of outcomes, to entertain the fans. The NWO’s reign of terror was part of a different timeline in wrestling and had already been done. While Aces N Eights are just doing the same, beating up the same rivals, time after time after time. How often has Samoa Joe, Magnus and Kurt Angle been beaten up? The pay per view and weekly Impact shows have similar calibre matches, which can be good for the attending audience, but for the longrun, makes everything too repetitive. Its a formula successfully used by WWE. I guess that is why loyal TNA fans are so happy as it is a show that focuses for wrestling rather than a business appeal.

Okay… So it seems that I am being a harsh critic right here. However, the similarities doesn’t just end there. During the NWO reign over WCW, there was tensions between the head figures of both organisations. Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash developed a rift leading to the formation of the side group NWO Wolf Pac. While the president of The Aces & Eights along with some members have decided to abuse D’Lo Brown for saying ‘I Quit’ in a close match with one of the best wrestlers in the world, Joseph Park… I’m kidding! Kurt Angle ofcourse. The Vice President and President are not in the same wavelength, showing not everything is perfect amongst the ‘brothers’ of the group. Oh thats another similarity, they are using Hulk’s infamous slang ‘Brother’. This disharmony with two higher ups with the main figure head’s abusive power limits the distinctive appeal of Aces & Eights. It’s not only that, but the way the young duo of Bischoff and Brisco also immediately forgetting how D’Lo Brown helped their progression in TNA as a scout in talent relations. This may play into effect later on, but is an aspect that should be considered. Bully’s ego dictating the dealings of the supposed equal rights group, sounds too familiar to the ego portrayed by Hollywood Hulk Hogan in NWO. Although I have to say, the dissimilarity here, is that no one’s ego can match Hulk Hogan’s, since he is arguably the biggest wrestling star there ever has been.

Also there are other comparable features between the NWO and Aces & Eights. As noted earlier, the Aces & Eights have been dismantling the entire roster of TNA with relative ease. This was happening with WCW against the powerful NWO who kept on gaining deceptive WCW stars jumping ship. The main faces of WCW hit a major conundrum of how to deal with the beast of NWO. One in particular, the biggest face at the time, Sting with the step down of Hulk Hogan. Sting had been in WCW for a very longtime, enjoying a successful career long after him and Ultimate Warrior parted ways from their tag team in the 1980s. Sting had a sense of loyalty to the company that had made him into a star and enjoy his wrestling in his prime. Sting felt he had to give something back to the company. Taking the responsibility of being the face of the company, Sting wanted to defend WCW even with the odds stacked against him. Fast forward nearly two decades later, Sting finds himself in a familiar situation. In a company, that has became his new home. In a company, that he grew in love with, something he never anticipated after being recognised as Mr WCW. Sting being one of the few to never jump ship to the rival WWE after the collapse of WCW. Sting the first inductee of TNA’s hall of fame, is once again defending the company against outsiders determined to alter the proceedings of the company. Just like back then, Sting is one of, and perhaps the main wrestler defending TNA along with the general manager Hulk Hogan, against Aces & Eights. The only differences are, that Sting is now recognised as the Icon of the company rather than as the main face, which is afforded to Jeff Hardy and that this time Sting and Hulk Hogan are united rather than fighting each other as enemies of opposite factions.

Using the Sting analogy, another parallel is recognisable. During Sting’s war with the NWO, he was continually sought for, by a host of different groups. Sting, being the new main face of the company, was the most in demand star seemingly available. There were WCW who he was with, the NWO who were growing in stature, and then the newly developed NWO Wolf Pac that had seemingly shared a hate with WCW for NWO black and white. On Monday Night Nitro, 24th February 1997, Sting arrived with his cool unique style, descending from the top of the arena, with the two only possible factions of NWO and NWO Wolf Pac vying for his services. The WCW had become too weak, and it was written off by the story writers as representing the wrestling of old, with the NWO factions representing a new era of non family base entertainment. Sting had been in demand by the two for a longtime. He had convincing situation from Hulk Hogan representing the more powerful NWO that possessed the likes of The Giant (The Big Show). Sting had his best friend, Lex Luger, at the NWO Wolf Pac, requesting that he should join the fight with him. Sting was in a dilemma. Once he touched ground, he entered the ring with The Big Show and Hulk Hogan monitoring him carefully. Sting was wearing a jacket covering his attire. As soon as Sting removed his jacket, it was the move all wrestling fans had dreaded. Sting had defected to the heels of NWO, to the delight of the duo Hulk Hogan and the Big Show. Sting was greeted as a hero by them, being hugged by the leader, Hulk Hogan. However, there was yet another twist! As the NWO continued to celebrate, Sting ended up sucker punching them, and attacked both of them. Before revealing he has actually decided to join his best friend, Lex Luger, in NWO Wolf Pac.

Fast forward nearly two decades after, and TNA were under a familiar predicament. The Aces & Eights have been outwitting TNA for a number of months. TNA are in desperate need for assistance, while the Aces & Eights want to maintain dominance. The trump card for either faction, has been the return of the phenomenal yet but obscure, AJ Styles. AJ Styles is undergoing a transformation, with a new redeemed spot light, reminiscing how Sting became the main face of WCW. Long has AJ Styles been arguably the best performer in TNA but for several years has been neglected, something I will save writing about for another article. This new AJ Styles, is set to become the major player in TNA once again. AJ Styles has recently returned to the Impact Zone after a hiatus from his defeat  at Turning Point 2012 to Bobby Roode and James Storm. Re-developing the man, whose destined to win Bound For Glory 2013, he needs the focus like Sting received. On one side, the general manager Hulk Hogan, his former close pal James Storm and Kurt Angle have been trying to convince AJ Styles to stick with TNA. At the other side, mainly Mr Anderson, has been trying to lure this vague AJ Styles to join the Aces & Eights. There was even a side twist, with Bad Influence trying to re-form ‘Four-tune’ with AJ Styles and one of their tag team opponents, Bobby Roode. This effected the tag team division, with uncertainty between Austin Aries and Bobby Roode. AJ Styles has become the sudden focal point of the company, effecting the entire landscape of TNA just like Sting had caused such a stir in WCW. Last week on TNA Impact, the decisive moment happened, as if TNA on the Impact of 23rd May 2013, had their own 24th February 1997 scenario. AJ Styles allegiance was speculated throughout the night. The rumours had been that AJ Styles was set to turn his back on TNA to join Aces & Eights. The final segment of the show concentrating on AJ Styles. To the dismay of the Impact Zone, AJ Styles had arrived with Aces & Eights to the ring. To further his bizarre new persona, he even openly drank beer for the first time, a characteristic of Aces & Eights while contradicting the AJ Styles that has amazed us wrestling fans.

Then the moment the Impact Zone gasped, AJ Styles wore the Aces and Eights jacket, evoking the time Sting showed his NWO t-shirt. Kurt Angle enraged with the sense of betrayal by AJ Styles, ran to the ring in a last act of glory, only to be engulfed by Aces & Eights, then decimated by a hammer by AJ Styles. The hammer has become the notorious item of Aces & Eights, just like the spray can deployed by the NWO. With Kurt Angle down, it was symbolic that Aces & Eights now are unstoppable with their new recruit by putting out one of TNA’s best. This lead to the Aces & Eights to celebrate, with AJ Styles. But recollecting the Sting scenario, AJ Styles went on to deceive the bemused Aces & Eights, by attacking them with their own hammer. Like Sting, he had suckered the group, tricking everyone in the arena and watching through the television. AJ Styles was able to escape without any harm, and stand supreme. I was happy for AJ Styles as he was able to be one of the few to escape the wrath of Aces & Eights, a wrestler that has been pushed down in recent years, as discussed in a previous article. But the problem is, if some see it as a problem, is it’s all been done before…

AJ Styles in an Aces & Eights gimmick

The job of the wrestling story writers are to bring something different, otherwise we would be re-living the moments of the past on a weekly basis instead. It can be a harsh thing to say as pretty much most possible storylines have been utilised. But Hulk Hogan has been trying to use familiar storylines over and over again. Aces & Eights need to use distinctive features, to help their cause. I would easily argue that The Shield in WWE have been more effective. The introduction of these three relatively unknown stars to the average wrestling fan, who doesn’t watch indie wrestling or NXT, lead to many to ponder who are these athletes? Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns, had a mask like the Aces & Eights metaphorically speaking. This group preached to challenge the system of the company, aiming to restore justice. They had an edgy feel, surely helped by the saviour of wrestling, my personal favourite, CM Punk, (who turns anything into gold like his storyline with Daniel Bryan and AJ Lee, helped them to gain the freedom to express their talents, who were neglected during Daniel Bryan’s world championship reign, with Sheamus winning in 18 seconds. Although can’t disregard the Wrestlemania 28 fans). A group who portrayed a vicious character, had a lot of pressure when they were due their first match, as a cover for the injured CM Punk. But being heavily involved in the WWE Championship picture, with the other relatively new star, the indestructible Ryback, and the very popular Team Hell No possessing the experienced Kane with a Daniel Bryan who was rejuvenated in 2012, the Shield had an anticipating match ready. No one knowing what could happen, made this enthrilling. Surely, the Shield were going to lose, against these known superstars. But the Shield to everyone’s surprise were able to transcend to everyone’s expectations, and were able to illustrate wrestling skills emulating their perceived characteristics while winning. In brief, The Shield has continued an unbeaten streak, while maintaining their unique style. I at first instinct, believed they would be like Nexus. A group I admired with the UK great Wade Barrett, Shelffield (Ryback) and etc, but they were limited as their wrestling wasn’t unique and they were similar to the NWO. Aces & Eights, NWO and Nexus haven’t wrestled any different to support their storyline. It’s the same as usual, just being named different. All three groups ended up being repetitive, with the groups dominating the good guys who would eventually stanmd up and intimidate them. I am a big fan of the Nexus and it was their storyline that helped to pivot WWE away in their current situation of slightly distancing themselves from the dull John Cena era. In hindsight, the group being repetitive doesn’t help Aces & Eights, and WWE using The Shield so well has hindered TNA. CM Punk helping with WWE’s backstage politics in helping selecting stars, and having his golden promos involvement with The Shield, has weakened the Aces & Eights. It could be argued that simply using CM Punk, a person’s perspective who has been viewed as eccentric in the wrestling business, has helped WWE, while Eric Bischoff and Terry Bollea must presume they are characters for the movie ‘Back to the Future’ as they haven’t evolved from their prehistoric but fantastic past NWO storyline that crumbled as it never adapted to any change.

All are fantastic moments in wrestling, but while the black & white, and coloured athletes indicate how wrestling has changed over time, the same can’t be said for Eric and Terry

In wrestling, as I have stated before, We have our own views and interpretations of wrestling storylines. But my advice is, if you want to watch Aces & Eights, you won’t be missing anything if you go to the DVD store and purchase the DVD ‘NWO: The Revolution’.

That’s right BROTHER! I’m going to defend The Hulkster here, despite his constant negative reaction to anything our staff writes about him.

Let’s look at what he has done that has seemingly made him this big anti hero the media has portrayed him as.

This big anti Hulk Hogan movement really began back in 2008 when his son Nick was incarcerated for a car accident that paralyzed his friend and passenger.

While serving his sentence Nick would have phone calls with his father, and yes make some ridiculous statements, such as, ” John (his passenger) was a really negative person” and this classic “As soon as I get out of here I want to shop this around as a reality TV show… There could be a lot of money in my story”

Let’s look at it. First HH didn’t make most of the controversial statements, his son did. Now yes I’m aware most were pissed off because Hogan didn’t get upset with his son, or lecture him about the comments being inappropriate, but let’s look at it through his eyes, he’s got his baby boy in a horrible place like jail, where he can not help or protect him any longer. So he does what he can as a parent to try and keep his child calm and in high spirits. I mean he had to be freaking out everyday, but to help his son he had to do what he had to do. I know myself I served 9 days for a traffic violation and my mom was a complete wreck the entire time. Hulk had to go through it for 8 months, plus constant media attention. There’s no way he was in his right mind.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not excusing Nicks comments, or Hulks response to them, but you have to look at all sides before you pass judgement. I’m positive, any parent would react similar to Hulk, and I’m positive any parent, and Hulk himself would respond differently if given a second chance. However second chance doesn’t exist in a situation like that, therefore he gets crucified.

This was at a time when MySpace was huge and Facebook was quickly rising, and you could hardly check either one without seeing someone’s negative opinions about Hogan. This really started the Immortal crucifixion.

Next up is “The Rub Down Seen Around The World!” Yep 2008 again and HH is at a pool with his new girlfriend, ( an attractive blonde) and his daughter Brooke ( an attractive blonde) and they’re enjoying a day in the sun, tanning, maybe a little swimming, you know normal people things. However with Hogan being who Hogan is, pictures were being snapped left and right. And yes what you see above is what one of those pictures caught! Oh heavens no! Is that the childhood idol Hulk Hogan feeling up his own daughter? Is that everyone’s favorite wrestling hero doing sexual things to his own child? Is Hulk Hogan in an incestuous relationship with Brooke Hogan? NO! NO! NO! What you see above and what you seen in other pictures was a father making sure his daughter didn’t get sun burned! That’s it! There’s no sexual undertones, no incest going on. Yeah some spots he touched were a little sensitive, if a stranger touched or grabbed them, but he is her father! He’s bathed her, changed her! Accusing HH of incest for what’s in that pic would be like accusing me of child molestation for wiping my new baby girls vagina when I change her! It’s ludicrous and ridiculous. Could you imagine the enormous amount of flack Brooke would’ve caught had she been sun burn in spots! Yeah that’s what the media will do. So if anything Hogan was saving his daughter some bad publicity. Hey paparazzi in about 19 years my daughter will be an adult and if she needs me to apply sun tan lotion on her, I’m going to! So get ready!

Oh yes more controversy with his baby girl! Here is more of the ludicrous accusations of incest! HH “retweeted” this picture with the caption “Brookes legs” Yep that’s all, and man did the Internet have a tizzy! Left and right people were accusing, bashing, and demonizing The Hulkster because he showed pride in his daughters appearance! People were saying “shame on you Hulk” but they should’ve been shaming themselves for what hey were saying about an innocent picture. There is nothing wrong with a father showing pride in his daughters appearance. If that is really so offensive, then I think anyone reading this article should turn me in for this:

Yep folks that’s my beautiful little girl, and she’s taking a bath! I say demonize Hogan for the pic of his daughter, only if your gonna demonize me for the pic of mine!

Finally ladies and gentlemen I come to my final incident. Something twitter and Facebook was up in arms about, they called it “disgusting” “vile” “grotesque” The reaction was so bad that Hogan actually apologized for it!

There it is folks. That picture along with a few others of the doctors working on it, we’re tweeted out by Hulk at the beginning of the week, and by mid week Hogan was apologizing. But for what? What did he post that was so bad? He had a freak accident and he shared it on social media, and for some reason that got people all up in arms. Can anyone name someone they know that wouldn’t post pics to they’re social media pages if the same thing had happened to them? NO you can’t because everyone would’ve done it! I certainly did, on my Facebook right now are pics of my finger gushing blood, and the horrendous aftermath of my last knee surgery, and I promise you if you go look at them I will not be apologizing for posting them! Neither should Hulk Hogan.

With all the things that are wide open about everyone’s lives today thanks to the monster that is Social Media, the new norm is to have your entire life open and available for the world to see. We have accepted this norm by creating and linking to each social media outlet that’s available to us. We post and tweet every detail of our everyday lives and act as though there is nothing wrong with it, yet when someone like The Hulkster uses social media just like the rest of us, or has his life blasted out like a cannon, suddenly the holier than thou Internet community goes bonkers and do everything to try and demonize, and condemn him for being a normal person! So I say keep living Hulkster, and shame on the Internet community that wants to live by a double standard, and judge based on misconceptions rather than facts.

I have to open this post by saying I couldn’t possibly be more excited for Slammiversary. I will be attending live and have some great tickets. I am lucky enough to be sitting directly across from the hard camera in the center  which means you will be able to see me on camera all night. I can’t wait. I’ve seen many WWE and some indy shows live but this will be my first TNA live experience. After spending a little bit of time on Twitter this morning I’m regretting not coughing up the dough to go to fan interaction today as it’s only about 40 minutes away from me. I like how TNA sets up intimate meet and greets for thier fans and judging from the photos today’s fan interaction has been one of the best. With all that being said tomorrow is going to be awesome, the card is stacked, and I can’t wait. Let’s take a look at the card and see if we can figure out which match is going to be match of the night!

Gut Check BFG Series Qualifying Match: Sam Shaw Vs. Jay Bradley

I must admit I am a little confused by TNA’s decision to go with these two for this match. Gut Check has been pretty hit or miss since the beginning and these two wrestlers don’t do much to help its reputation. How is Christian York not a part of this? Christian York is obviously light years beyond any of the Gut Check winners so far. The guy doesn’t need any seasoning he’s a ring veteran and very talented one at that. The fans absolutely love Christian York and he’s managed to really get the audience behind him since becoming part of the TNA roster. I fully expected Christian York to be the Gut Check contestant that would enter the BFG series which is why I was so surprised that he didn’t make it. If I had to pick one I would say Jay Bradley but to be honest I’m not expecting much. These two have a LONG way to go before they are ready for the main roster and besides that the audience doesn’t seem to care about them much. I’m expecting this to be a bathroom break match but hoping I will be pleasantly surprised.

Last Knockout Standing Match – Gail Kim Vs. Taryn Terrell

This match has some serious potential. TNA has done an awesome job of building this feud and on top of that we know the knockouts bring it every single time. The women in TNA has the fire, passion and skill that the divas of WWE lack. When a Diva’s match comes on I fast forward my DVR but when a Knockout’s match comes on I find myself being entertained through most of them. Taryn Terrell is hot as hell and has come a long way with her wrestling skills. I expect Taryn to surprise a lot of people here. Gail Kim is one of the best womens wrestlers in the world. As far as a female version of a last man standing match goes I’m not sure if one has ever happened before but if it has I have never witnessed one. This should be awesome to see in person as we know that these two will put on a show. I’m picking Taryn for the win because she seems to have a lot of momentum here. This could be the Knockout’s match of the year.

Ultinate X Match For the X Division Championship – Kenny King Vs. Chris Sabin Vs. Suicide

I just found myself getting overly excited due to the fact that I actually had no idea this would be an Ultimate X match. This will be a great match to watch live. Kenny King has made a name for himself as X-division champion and has done a great job bringing prestige back to the title. TNA has also done a decent job at bringing the X-division back in to focus. I definitely think TNA could be doing more with the X-division but you have got to start somewhere. People are split over the new X-division rules and especially the fact that all matches must now be a triple threat match. I could go either way with that rule. I like one on one matches but since the rule has been put in place all of the triple threat matches have managed to steal the show and wow the audience. Suicide’s return has been great so far and the same can be said for Sabin. Sabin and Suicide are two of the best that the X-division has to offer and these three will put on one hell of a match. I’m leaning towards Sabin for the win but my gut tells me Kenny King will hold the title until BFG. With that being said I’ve go to pick Kenny King as the winner in what will surely be a match of the night if not match of the year contender.

Samoa Joe, Magnus and Jeff Hardy Vs. DOC, Garrett Bischoff and Wes Brisco

It seems pretty obvious here who will win this match. I’m totally fine with the faces going over here as the heel team doesn’t really have too much going for them. I never thought I would say this but Garrett Bischoff has come a long way. In the past year he has really improved and no one is more surprised than me. With that being said he has a lot to prove here so I would expect him to make a good effort to give people something to talk about and the same goes for Wes Brisco. With Jeff Hardy’s return though there is just no way TNA will book his team to lose and I’m fine with that. Jeff Hardy is an established star, Samoa Joe is a power house and Magnus has the brightest future out of anyone in this match. This match could go either way as far as quality. Magnus and Samoa Joe make an amazing tag team and whenever they work together the results are always gold. Throw Jeff Hardy who also has quite a bit of tag team experience in to the mix and you could have something great. We will just have to wait and see. I’m going with the faces for the win in a match that will most likely be just a little above average.

TV Title Match – Devon Vs. Joseph Park

If you read my article about the TV title a few weeks ago you know how I feel about it. The TV title is one of the most misused titles in pro-wrestling today. With that being said it is nice to see it featured on a PPV finally. This match will no doubt be decent but to be honest I’m getting really sick of the whole Joseph Park thing. It is definitely time to bring back Abyss. Devon has proven as TV champion he can get it done in the ring so these two should be able to pull off a good match. I would expect some sort of Abyss tease/distraction which will lead to Joseph Park getting the win. I’m ok with Joseph Park getting the TV title as long as he defends it. It seems TNA is building slowly toward an Abyss return and hinting that Abyss and Joseph Park are just part of a multiple personality disorder. I think that angle could work out but it has been going too long and most likely won’t wrap up until BFG. Oh well let’s just try to enjoy the ride

Tag Team Title Match – Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez Vs. Bad Influence Vs. Roode and Aries Vs. Gunner and Storm

I really can’t give TNA enough credit for how great of a job they’ve done with their tag team division. These past few months that tag team division has been one of the brightest parts of TNA and this match no doubt has the potential to steal the show. This match has 8 of TNA’s best wrestlers and any of them could easily be put in a main event feud and have it be believable and that is what makes this match so special. The tage team division has even made me like Chavo Guerrero who is someone that I never could stand but he fits perfectly in TNA’s tage team division. This match surely has potential to be the match of the night. You can count Aries and Roode out as I see them splitting very soon. Bad Influence is a great team without the titles and the same can be said about Chavo and Hernandez. I have to give the win here to Gunner and Storm. Gunner just returned and Storm deserves a reward for his hard work. With the way TNA has positioned Storm in the tag title feud I would say he and Gunner are the favorites here. I would rather see Storm in singles competition but as long as they are giving him something to do I won’t complain.

AJ Styles Vs. Kurt Angle

Right off the bat this is the easy pick for match of the night. AJ has been on fire since his return and Kurt Angle is still putting on some of the best matches of his career. I’ve said it before and I will say it again the AJ Styles storyline is the best thing going on in wrestling right now. It is awesome to see AJ get so much attention after years of bad booking. Last year at Slammiversary AJ and Kurt stole the show as they were on the same team in a tag team match. This year they face off in singles competition but I expect the result to be no different. You’ve got two guys here who always pull out all the stops so expect a show stealing match with this one. AJ is likely to get the win here as he needs the momentum and Kurt can afford to take a loss. Expect this to be match of the night with AJ taking the win setting him up to be a major player in the BFG series.

TNA World Heavyweight Championship Match – Sting Vs. Bully Ray

(If Sting loses he can never compete for the World Title again)

This match is another one of those polarizing matches due to the inclusion of Sting. I honestly don’t have a problem with the inclusion of Sting. Yes it is true that he needs to stop down from the main event and let younger guys challenge for the title but with the stipulations here it seems this will be his last main event hoorah so to speak. Sting may be old but he can still get it done in the ring and this isn’t the type of match that requires a lot of technical wrestling. This match is all about the story which has been built up beautifully. TNA has done a great job with the Aces and Eights angle as far as buildup goes. The angle has been running for a long time but it involves so many characters that it is easy to shift it in a new direction at any given time. With that being said Sting Vs. Bully is the natural choice for this match when you look back at how everything has unfolded since BFG. I’ve got to pick Bully for the win here as I don’t see him dropping the belt before BFG 2013. Sting will lose and the fans will give him a standing ovation and Bully will carry the title to BFG and hopefully defend it against AJ Styles. This will be a great match even though it won’t be much more than a brawl

TNA has done a great job building this PPV and the decision for cut it back to only 4 PPVs per year has really paid off as far as storylines go. I can’t wait to attend this show live and the card is great.

Who Will Steal The Show?

I’m going with AJ and Kurt as the show stealer. The Ultimate X match and tag title match could give them a run for their money but the safe bet is on AJ and Kurt.

MR. ANDERSON
Mr. Anderson makes his second appearance on Making An Impact!. What places Mr. Anderson on the list this week is how, in one act against D’Lo Brown at the start of the show, he displayed a different level of ruthlessness hidden inside of the Aces & 8′s.

Sure, Anderson and the Aces & 8′s have ganged up on many on the TNA roster, but there was something… darker to Anderson when it came down to teaching D’Lo a lesson. In the last Making An Impact! that highlighted Mr. Anderson, it was his position and leadership that was analyzed. This time, it looks to be how deep the viciousness of Anderson as a member of the Aces & 8′s is. Watching Impact Wrestling, he has completely given himself in to the Aces & 8′s story and is their executor. You can’t help but watch him, even in the background as Bully Ray is speaking to the troops.

WHAT TO DO
- Don’t place Anderson in a match for a week or two and focus on Anderson the executor and loose canon. Take out talent and step on the toes of the Aces that haven’t truly stepped up.

- Start the internal watching of Anderson between the members of the Aces. Either have everyone become cautious around Anderson or begin my suggested route to have him gain high favor from Bully Ray. This would lead to jealousy and/ or a possible coup within the group for leadership. It can also lead to a split: Team Anderson and Team Bully.

GAIL KIM
Gail Kim came out strong going into her singles Last Knockout Standing match at Slammiversary, even with a loss on Impact Wrestling’s mixed tag bout with Kenny King.

TNA has always given Gail Kim the proper respect she deserves with screen time as this was a proper build towards her match at Slammiversary. The champion, Mickie James, was an afterthought following Gail’s attack on Velvet Sky. It doesn’t make sense to have Velvet take the loss to Mickie James for the gold, as a more compelling story would have been told with a Gail Kim/ Velvet Sky match. Ultimately, Taryn and Gail have to put their feud to rest before any further progress can be made and Slammiversary looks to be the place with Gail Kim as the favorite to take the win.

WHAT TO DO
- Have Gail Kim defeat Taryn Terrell at Slammiversary and get her deeper into the title picture.

- Continue to have Gail Kim hold a microphone and let her voice be heard.

- It feels as though the sudden intensity is dying down, so bring that back up. Gail Kim’s persona is more of a “privileged” heel and it should change into a badass Knockout.

IMPACT WRESTLING – TAMPA, FL – 5/30/2013 (RECORDED 5/23/2013)

Bully Ray & Devon Vs. Sting & Joseph Park

Analysis: Surprisingly, Sting is going into Slammiversary this Sunday as the underdog. Not only because of the stipulation added which makes this a no lose situation for Sting, but also because of the returning Jeff Hardy. That will be discussed in detail on The Ric Says this weekend here on TNANews.com.

Sting, being the underdog, needs to look strong heading into Slammiversary and a win for his team makes the most sense. In the case of Bully Ray and the Aces & 8′s, it provides them with more of a reason to pick up the intensity and further display their power. Bully and Devon in no way look bad taking the lose, as their retribution was realized at the end of the program. This match played out as it should have: setting up the rest of the night for the Aces and the impending revenge on Sting and Team TNA at the end.

Samoa Joe Vs. Garrett Bischoff
Broadcast: No contest? Samoa Joe def. Garrett Bischoff by DQ?
Ric’s Booking Sheet: Samoa Joe def. Garrett Bischoff by DQ (a more clearly announced winner)
Analysis: A questionable end to this match up as no clear cut winner was announced, though it’s assumed Samoa Joe picked up the win by DQ due to the Aces & 8′s interfering. The problem which this match up is both Samoa Joe and Garrett Bischoff needed to both head into Slammiversary with momentum for their respective teams. Joe just returned from “injury” and Bischoff has to be the confident leader of his three man team.

A DQ victory makes the most sense but a clear winner should have been announced to garner a reaction from the crowd but instead, we were left with confusion. How the match should have played out is Joe hitting Garrett with the muscle buster and attempting a pinfall when, on cue, the Aces & 8′s attack. Magnus joins in to clean house and then we have the Samoa Joe promo where he reveals Jeff Hardy as part of their team at the pay-per-view.

Christopher Daniels, Kazarian, Bobby Roode & Austin Aries Vs. James Storm, Gunner, Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez

Analysis: There hasn’t been a deep look into Roode/ Aries or Chavo/ Hernandez (the tag team champions) these past two weeks, so it was crucial for them to stand out, which they did. However, the real purpose of this match up, aside from building towards the 4 team elimination match at Slammiversary, was to highlight the returning Gunner and the real shot Gunner/ Storm have at becoming tag team champions.

Gunner should have gotten the win tonight to further prove to James Storm and the TNA audience that he is here for tag team gold, no matter the partner. We all know Gunner’s past with Immortal, but this is a step towards Gunner truly coming to his own and stepping out of that shadow. TNA did a good job in doing that tonight, so expect a high stakes tag team match at Slammiversary.

Gail Kim & Kenny King Vs. Chris Sabin & Taryn Terrell

Analysis: A fun tag team match with four great talents. Taryn Terrell and Gail Kim did exactly what they needed to do to build towards their pay-per-view match (Kim more so with her attack on Velvet Sky during the Mickie James/ Velvet Sky segment before the match). King and Sabin also set the tone for their X-Division Championship match up with Sabin picking up the win and making the most of his comeback.

It was a difficult decision to have Sabin/ Terrell win in my booking sheet as there’s an understanding as to why King/ Kim should have won as well. However, regarding the X-Division, this is a classic case of the X- Division champion possibly losing his gold to two returning stars. Regarding the Last Knockout Standing match between Kim and Terrell, Gail Kim took the lead on this night and looks the best going into the Knockout’s match.

Mr. Anderson Vs. AJ Styles
Broadcast: No contest? AJ Styles def. Mr. Anderson by DQ?
Ric’s Booking Sheet: AJ Styles def. Mr. Anderson via pinfall, followed by Angle’s attack
Analysis: A solid match between Anderson and Styles tonight, progressing the Aces & 8′s/ Styles storyline and also the Styles/ Angle storyline.

AJ Styles should have been the clear cut winner on this night for a couple of reasons. First, Anderson has been picking up wins lately with the help of the Aces & 8′s so a lose to AJ Styles, for the greater good of their story, would have made the most sense. The Aces would continue to grow frustrated and AJ Styles would build his momentum going into Slammiversary. Second, a win by AJ Styles would have made an impression on Angle. AJ picks up the win, turns to see Angle there nodding his win and then a fist to AJ’s face that leads into the end brawl of the program.

JOSEPH PARK & STING VS. BULLY RAY & DEVON
Sting is challenging for the world heavyweight championship against current champion Bully Ray. To have this as the opener is a bit surprising, considering the attention and stakes that have been placed on the bout at the pay-per-view. 9 times out of 10, the world championship should be featured as the main event (the final match on the card), provided that the current storyline the champion is involved in warrants that final and lasting spot.

Since this will be the opener, there should be some sort of twist in the match involving Abyss that will strike a nerve in the world champion throughout the night and into the end of the program. Since the pressure is on Sting to defeat Bully at the pay-per-view, Sting needs to look strong tonight and carry the momentum into Slammiversary. Bully and Devon’s job for the night will be to enhance Sting’s presence and importance of the bout.

GUNNER, JAMES STORM, CHAVO & HERNANDEZ VS. KAZARIAN, DANIELS, BOBBY ROODE & AUSTIN ARIES
This contest should have been the opening bout and set the tone for the night. With nothing but raw talent emanating from all 8 men, expect to see a fast paced match up with varying styles of in-ring work on display. The technical skills of Roode & Aries, the power of James Storm & Gunner, the high-flying action of Chavo & Hernandez and the unorthodox mental chess game of Daniels & Kazarian.

With a 4-way elimination tag team match at Slammiversary for the tag team gold, its imperative that each team not make a mistake and look to be weak. Once a weakness is discovered, it will be exploited. The match up should focus on not only Roode and Aries, but Gunner being given his time to prove himself to be a player in the ring, especially with Storm not at full wrestling capacity. Chavo and Hernandez will be the defending champions at the pay-per-view so they will have to figure out a way to remind everyone why they are the champions. Kazarian and Daniels will provide the comic relief but will also stir the pot and have the teams lose trust in one another.

TARYN TERRELL & CHRIS SABIN VS. GAIL KIM & KENNY KING
Here is a match up that moves along two storylines going into the pay-per-view. In regards to Kenny King and Chris Sabin, these two will meet at the pay-per-view, along with Suicide, in an Ultimate X Match for the X-Division title. Because Sabin, King and Suicide look to steal the show at the pay-per-view, expect the match up to be X-Division focused. Sabin and King will take the lead and tell a competitive story.

The ladies of the Knockouts division will absolutely have their time to vent and express how they will tear each other apart at Slammiversary. We’ve all seen Gail Kim’s new found mean streak rising from within and her beef with Taryn Terrell is far from over. It’s unclear as to who looks to be the favorite to win at Slammiversary, but expect these two ladies to go back and forth while making a statement to one another and the Knockout’s division.

MR. ANDERSON VS. AJ STYLES
This looks to be an exciting match and, hopefully, the main event of the evening. However, with the way last week’s program ended, there won’t be any fair play involved. The Aces have been known to involve themselves in Anderson’s matches as of late so expect the same coming into this match up. Will AJ Styles become a victim of the Aces & 8′s on Impact Wrestling Thursday night?

Another name that we mustn’t forget is Kurt Angle. Despite Styles swerving the Aces last week, he still took a shot at Kurt Angle with a hammer. Was he trying to protect Angle in his own way? Is he truly following his own agenda without a care for Angle? Will Angle make an appearance and insert himself in the bout, looking for payback?

There’s alot to look forward to on Impact Wrestling tomorrow night. Each advertised bout looks solid and will carry their respective stories into Slammiversary with much excitement. There is sure to be plenty of other happenings as well, so keep watch of those that will bridge the gaps throughout the night.

4. R-Truth/Ron Killings

R-Truth/Ron Killings actually was part of the WWE back in the late 90s to early 00s. He actually held the Hardcore Championship twice. Holding a title in the WWE gets you noticed. It doesn’t even matter what title it is. Killings went to TNA in 2002 and that was where he made his mark. He won the NWA World Championship twice. It solidified him as a main event talent. Killings was facing the top names in the company and he was holding up. He now is with WWE again as R-Truth, but he hasn’t won the big one there yet. TNA gave him that opportunity and he shined!

3. Mr. Anderson

I wrote a whole article about Mr. Anderson from his time in WWE and in TNA. Mr. Anderson was an established guy in WWE as he became Money in the Bank Winner and even challenged for the World Heavyweight Title a couple times. He never won though. He came to TNA in 2010 and won the TNA World Title twice. Ken showed that he isn’t injury prone, dangerous in the ring, and that he can be a main event star. Anderson is great on the mic and knows how to get the fans to react. Anderson was the main event in the company… twice! Here is where WWE couldn’t finish the work, so TNA finished it with showcasing him on top of the ladder.

2. Bully Ray

It’s so hard to believe that Bully Ray, Buh Buh Ray Dugley or Bubba Ray Dugley, never held a World Title. He was in ECW and even in WWE, but he was known as a tag team wrestler. That is what made him face, with Devon. WWE wasn’t afraid to split the team up, but both didn’t get far in the company as singles competitors. They came to TNA and still worked as a tag team. It was up until 2010 where TNA split Team 3-D. Bully Ray went on his way to make this hateful heel character. 3 years later and he is the TNA World Champion. Ray really showed everyone that he isn’t just a tag team wrestler. He showed that he can really make it on his own. He showed his true talent and passion for the business. Ray didn’t get this far as a singles competitor anywhere else but in TNA.

1. Christian Cage

Here is where Christian Cage comes into play as I wrote in the beginning that I was wondering where he went. He was in WWE since the late 90s. He made his debut in TNA in 2005. His time in WWE though was filled with tag team matches and some single runs. Before he left WWE, he was a singles competitor and actually challenged for the WWE Title against John Cena and Chris Jericho in a Triple Threat Match. He lost. He came to TNA and became the NWA World Champion the same year. He won the title twice. Christian’s career hit the big time when he came to TNA. He was right in the main event and stayed there. TNA gave Christian his first real big break. He moved back to WWE where he actually won World Titles, ECW World Title and the World Heavyweight Title, but we can’t forget who started to give him the World Championship!

TNA may be known for hiring veteran type stars to prove their company, but most people don’t realize some the big names they bring into the company have never been in the main event. Some of them never won the World Championship. That changed when they came to TNA. Not only that, TNA has built some great stars for today and the future, but that’s for next time.

Football, the beautiful game… Known in some countries as soccer, is the most watched sport in the world. It is a sport that has the two biggest sport franchises in the world with forbes list stating that the football clubs of Manchester United and Real Madrid are the only sporting brands to reach the £1 billion mark. Speaking of Manchester United, their manager of 26 years of glory broke the hearts of the football world, by announcing his unexpected retirement. Not to mention, yesterday, London in it’s famous Wembley stadium hosted the infamous Champions League Final between the two German clubs of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund who had prevailed over the Spanish duo Barcelona and Real Madrid in the semi finals. This shows the enormity of the sport, and reasons I have been distracted from having time to construct more wrestling articles of mine.

However, there is a reason why I am talking about Football in a wrestling website. All of us, are well aware of TNA’s adoration for the UK. The fans in the UK are often vibrant that help to galvanise the performing athletes to step it up a gear for the show. Some say the UK fans are vocal with their appreciation because they have limited opportunities to be at a live show. This was actually part of the reason that TNA decided to go on road to allow the fans who can’t regularly visit Orlando, Florida, to visit live TNA Impact events. While others have labelled us UK fans as being able to transfer our football hooliganism to the wrestling events. That passion that is brought between these two sports does benefit the wrestling product.

This is not to discriminate against any non UK fan. What is admirable about wrestling, is how it is one of the few sports that is able to be appreciated by every country unlike Football aka Soccer or American Football. What we have seen in the pictures, are the links wrestling have with football, that hasn’t been exploited to its utmost potential. Cristiano Ronaldo and Rey Mysterio jr combining together, helps to bring in the fans of Portuguese and Spanish speaking fans. In the other picture, Wade Barrett, an English wrestler, who has caught the adoration of the UK fans, has followed a tradition admired in the English football culture, of remaining loyal to his local football team, Preston North End. He had a recent interview about this with the BBC. In fact, at Wrestlemania 29′s Axxess, I caught his attention by chanting his link with the UK. Just too bad, I wasn’t able to get my one to one session in a busy event.

But back to the point, wrestling and football have links, but instead, these wrestling franchises associate themselves with other sporting brands. There are huge associations with the American Football athletes of the annual Super Bowl, which is fantastic. The American Footballers, help to bring excitement to the show. But in an industry that admits its recent frailty to peril behind its optimal state, as stated in a previous article, it needs all of the help it can get.

The football spirit has helped not only TNA, but has also influenced WWE. The night after Wrestlemania 29, Raw witnessed what many say was the best crowd for a Raw show for years. I was there, and the crowd at the show and after the show, around the Izod Centre in New Jersey were amazing. Many people, including the impressed commentators, praised the crowd of being like the football hooligans from the UK. I can assure you that many of the fans were from UK and the rest of Europe, like with the vibrant vocal support for Wade Barrett. In addition, JBL who continues to build a reputation as perhaps the best active commentator in wrestling today, uses a variety of sporting analogies with wrestling to help keep the fans intrigued. A few weeks ago, on Raw, during a match of The Shield vs Team Hell No & John Cena, when Seth Rollins was attacking John Cena in the corner, JBL stated “The Shield have been unbeatable like how Gareth Bale has been in the English Premier League”. All of these factors show how wrestling is able to benefit from football. It’s an element that can help push wrestling forward.

We’ve seen wrestling form partnerships with external brands like John Cena and NASCAR. This week,  the baseball giants New York Yankees (the third largest sporting brand in the world) announced a collaboration with the wealthiest football club in the world, Manchester City (if you disregard the club’s finances and acknowledge their chairman) to form a new MLS side, New York City FC. This new football (soccer) side, will help build their own already established franchises. Also its always beneficial to have an affiliation with a business that should flourish, in the financial capital of the world, New York. Wrestling should follow suit where WWE exploited many things for the promotion of Wrestlemania 29 in New York. In a situation with TNA have shown a close bond with the UK, and their pursuit of aiming to rival WWE one day, they should try to build a link. Perhaps for example, become a sponsor for a moderately or large sized club, to help promotion of their company but to also show an affiliation with the most watched sport in the world.

To go off in a tangent, while football is on the agenda, like the loss of Sir Alex Ferguson from Football, along with Paul Scholes, Jamie Carragher, Jupp Heynckes and others, I predict that wrestling will lose their wrestling equivalent of Sir Alex Ferguson in the form of Vince McMahon jr. I predict that Vince will ensure that the spectacle of Wrestlemania 30 will be memorable, by being the main man to headline the hall of fame. This will be signaled with the rise of Ryback as the new face of WWE from the ageing stars of John Cena and the great CM Punk. He will finally win the WWE championship at Wrestlemania 30. It was rumoured Vince would only be ready to hand the reigns to Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, when a new prominent star is established. Footballing issues being correlated with wrestling yet again.

For wrestling to progress in a business that seeks fans, to grow and expand, it needs to continually be appealing. Charles Darwin’s theory is that it is the survival of the fittest, and wrestling itself always is battling with other entertainment shows like the NBA. Wrestling has adapted to the changing environment of fans’ preferences with WWE mixing PG entertainment with some WWF Attitude elements, while TNA prefer to broadcast a more mature program. But for Wrestling to evolve, it needs to grasp the missing link, it’s there, it’s Football!

What do you think about the Gut Check Tournament for the Bound for Glory Series?

Alex: First off, I think the idea is great. I think the idea is great because it gives the new stars a chance to be on television, establish a character, make fans choose whether they like them or not, and to help them in the ring. The thing that I don’t like is that these stars come on the show and we haven’t seen them in months. Seeing them in the Gut Check Challenge is pretty much two weeks and then these stars go off to train. Yes, they probably need to train, but it’s hard to have someone and take them away and then have them appear again. What I do like is how they show videos of these stars and had Jay Bradley cut a promo after his match. Jay Bradley vs. Christian York was a good match. I talked to people after the match and people were quite split on who was better in the match. While I like York, Jay is a fresh face. Sam Shaw vs. Alex Silva was quite disappointing and I feel for Alex. This was going to be his time to show off his skills. He wants to be on the show. Every wrestler would want to be on the show. Sadly, Aces took care of that. That’s what booking does. At any rate, it’s great to see two stars get a match at a PPV. Having them on Slammiversary is great. I hope nerves don’t affect them. At any rate, it’s a good opportunity for these guys. The question is, do the others just go away? We learn their story for a couple of weeks and now we have to forget about them.

Kendra: As I missed most of last week’s Impact, I didn’t know what the Gut Check Tournament was all about, but after a little watching today I figured it out. I see both good and bad in this tourney. First off, it’s a great way for these Gut Check wrestlers to work the ring, get noticed, and possibly make a name for themselves, all the while giving us more wrestling on Impact with a direction. I’m all for good wrestling with a direction, and the tourney TNA had last summer was wonderful, but it was also the first really good tourney TNA’s had that I can remember. Because of the number of piss poor tourneys that TNA’s had in the past, I’m worried. Also, I’m not sure any of the Gut Check guys are ready to go after the TNA Championship at this point, so why bother pushing this tournament. Lastly, where does that leave the women who have won Gut Check? So while I think there’s a lot of good things about this Gut Check Tournament, I’m worried that it will be a lot of fun until a fruitless end.

Alex: I see both sides that you are talking about Kendra, but it’s pretty safe to say that the Gut Check workers really aren’t going for the title already. Only the winner will move on to the Bound for Glory Series. Then they have to compete. That one person really has to be on his game and hopefully stands out and impresses everyone!

How would you book Magnus going forward?

Alex: I love booking questions because that is what I have done for over a year with an online wrestling show. Magnus is the future of this business, without a doubt. Magnus is young and talented. He is great in the ring and on the mic as he even impressed some people I know. How can you book Magnus with everything going on in Impact? At this point, I don’t think you can push him to main event status right now. Sting, Bully Ray, and soon AJ Styles will be part of that. On the other hand, I think they can make Magnus a huge threat. He has the look. I personally like him as a face, but I also can see him as a heel. Imagine if his character was this young stud who wants everything? He’s greedy. He doesn’t like the veterans. Sure, it sounds like Randy Orton when he first came into the WWE, but it worked for him. I can see Magnus doing this. If I made him a heel, I would have him take out different veterans in the company. Either TNA can bring them in for a per shot deal or just take out the veterans in the company now. Imagine Kurt Angle vs. Magnus? If I would keep him face, I would either keep him as a tag team right now as so many things are going on in TNA, or I would have him go for a mid-card title. They don’t have many titles though. The Television Title completes Devon. X-Division won’t work for Magnus. He’s almost stuck. I would just push him as this young guy who listens to the veterans, take their word, and overcome all of his obstacles. Speaking about Magnus, I will be interviewing him this Tuesday at 3PM EDT on WrestlingNewsWorld.com! I sure hope you come, listen, and call in to ask Magnus questions!

Kendra: There’s so much going on with the Tag Division right now, I don’t think that Magnus and Joe need to team up for that reason, but I do think they should team up again. Joe and Magnus have a great chemistry together, so it makes a lot of sense for them to work together, but not toward gold this time around. I feel Joe and Magnus coming back together is the first big step toward taking out A&8′s. Obviously there needs to be more than just Joe and Magnus, but adding them in with Sting, Joseph, Angle, and EY when he’s around, and there’s a lot they can do against A&8′s. It’s about time TNA puts together a faction that really stands up to A&8′s, and I think Magnus and Joe would be great on that team, no matter which members of A&8′s they’re fighting.

Alex:You can also include Jeff Hardy when he returns. Also, I still have a feeling that AJ Styles will be going for the title, which does mean he will be going against Aces. There’s a lot for Magnus now.

What are your thoughts on Gunner’s return and tagging with James Storm?

Alex: I was actually surprised that Gunner returned to Impact Wrestling this week. I read that he is backstage at the event, but I didn’t want to report it because it very well could have been wrong. You never know with wrestling NEWZ sites. I liked Gunner though. I remember his time as the security guard and his membership with Immortal. He was by far better then Murphy. Gunner left the show and we haven’t heard from him at all. I am pretty sure he went to OVW. The James Storm segment for me on this week’s Impact was a bit crazy. First was Sharkboy, who is such a strange cartoon character that I thought I was watching WWE for a minute. I like Sharkboy, and liked him in the past, but TNA doesn’t need that in this day and age. Just look how their characters are now? I don’t think anyone wears a mask besides Suicide. Just like the Gut Check stars, we need to see some story with Gunner. I saw one. TNA uploaded a video on their official Youtube page having Gunner talk why he came back and now teaming up with James Storm. It was a great video. I hope you watch it and hope TNA plays it next week as it’s tells such a great story for Gunner that TNA only needs to air that to make him relevant again. When Gunner actually came in the ring and stood up, I thought it was Matt Morgan. Matt doesn’t have long hair but the beard is quite identical. I didn’t know what was going on. I soon realized who it really was. Since that is the case, I think Gunner needs a different look. Look clean cut. I know Storm isn’t, but they aren’t friends. They don’t even know each other. Gunner needs a unique look to stand him out when we just see him backstage, in the ring, or anywhere in public. I like Gunner and Storm as a team. It’s unique and different. I hope Gunner impresses me and everyone at Slammiversary. He needs to for this push. They are an unlikely duo but wouldn’t mind having them in the division for some time.

Kendra: I’m ecstatic to see Gunner back in TNA! I’ve been a Gunner fan since it was obvious that he really had something, and Murphy really didn’t. I really thought he was going to be part of A&8′s, and when that didn’t happen, I was wondering when we’d see him again. When he appeared in the ring with Storm I must admit I was shocked, but after thinking things through, and seeing how jacked Gunner looks, I realized that this could be a wonderful things for him, and us. AMW was a solid team, and even though I was never a Harris fan, Storm shone through. Move on to BMI and the mixture of Storm and Roode was stellar and pushed the Tag Division in TNA to a whole new level (along with their work with the MCMGs). At this point I’d like to be pissy about some of TNA’s biggest names being in teams, but since it’s more than just one or two top guys, I’m guessing they’re going somewhere with the Tag Division. Roode and Aries are seriously strong together, both in the ring and on mic. Bad Influence have really pushed themselves to a whole new level recently. Chavo tagging with Hernandez has been a wonderful thing for both of them, though still a bit cliched. Because of all this I can’t be as pissy about Storm not being in the run for the WHC, so why not team him up with someone? I think Storm can do a lot to help push Gunner’s career, and the two of them together could be a force to be reckoned with. Storm is such a proven tag team wrestler, so working with Gunner – if everything pans out, and they have even half the chemistry of BMI – could be a wonderful thing for both of them.

Alex:I absolutely agree that having Gunner team with Storm can do wonders for him. Roode already had talent before he teamed with Storm, but he went on to a new level to being on the mic, being in the ring, and developing a character. I feel like Gunner can really develop while being in a division that has really helped some huge stars!

Was the X-Division camera so bad that TNA already got rid of it?

Alex: I want to say this first. I did not think the X-Division referee head camera was a bad idea. It all depends how you use it. If TNA uses it during a live show, then the camera could be all over the place and miss key spots. If they use it on a taped show and use it on occasion during the match, after looking through the footage, or even showing footage from the camera after the match, then it would be great. The footage can’t be shaky and it needs to show great spots with showing the whole move. TNA’s first attempt was during the live show and it actually made me dizzy. The second attempt was during a taped show and it worked better. They had it last week and they didn’t even show footage from it. Honestly, I think it was wasting TNA’s time. They had to look at all of the camera angles as well as the head cam. If they are doing it taped, then they have to look over it at the end. It’s just takes up time. I don’t think TNA wanted to use up the valuable time and, as some mentioned, didn’t like the concept. TNA could have got rid of it just because of the fans didn’t like it. Yeah, they do listen to their fans for the most part. Great concept but it has to be used more effectively.

Kendra: I can’t say it was a bad idea, but there’s no question that the X Division camera was horribly executed. I think that a camera above the ring, looking down on the action, could be a good idea, but strapping a camera to Brian Hebner’s head, then putting him in to ref the match was an absolutely kerfuffle! I am hoping that TNA has decided that the X Division camera wasn’t working, so it’s been trashed, but I can’t give TNA crap for trying something new. I think it’s great that TNA is willing to try new things, and jump in with both feet. I think that’s something the WWE has lost as it’s grown to the size it is. It feels as though the WWE has been too safe since buying out WCW and ECW. Shows what a lack of competition can do to a company.

Alex: Agree! That is why competition is key in the business world!

Why do you think they brought back Suicide?

Alex: On the live episode of Impact Wrestling in Indiana, PA, TNA set up a poll. That poll was, “Who do you want to be the next new contender for the X-Division?” It was between Rashad Cameron, Rockstar Spud, or Suicide. I did not vote as I completely ran out of time and I forgot. If I was to vote though, I would have picked Rockstar Spud only because he impressed me when he made his debut on the show when the company went overseas. Suicide is a character that was born in 2008. TNA released their video game and Suicide was a star that the developers created. He went on to have quite an impressive run in the company as he became the X-Division Champion and actually won a King of the Mountain Match in 2009. He left the company in 2010. Suicide, as a character, was over. They liked the mysteriousness of the star as well as his moveset in the ring. Honestly, I bet Suicide did win in the poll for Impact. The others really haven’t been pushed enough to even have people remember them. I talked to my casual friend yesterday and he actually liked Suicide. He liked his moves. He also liked the gear and that he is mysterious. Surprisingly, the character works. Funny how this came from the Vince Russo era. Everyone, well the IWC, can’t stand the guy and his ideas, but they like Suicide. I can’t exactly say that Suicide was a Russo idea to be on the show, but it is something interesting. Suicide was a character that was over back in 2008. Apparently, the IWC likes TNA in the past more. At any rate, Suicide is on and another person added to the growing stars of the X-Division. The division is alive again.

Kendra: I honestly have no clue why they brought back Suicide. I have thought that the character was a bad decision from word one. After Benoit killed his family, and then himself, you’d think TNA would want to stay away from anything that reminded people of what happened, but each time Suicide is on TV he points his two fingers at his own head like a gun. Suicide debuted a year and couple months after that fateful weekend, way too early in my opinion, but I also don’t think the character should have debuted at all. But, since the character is still around, and TNA can’t seem to let it go, I guess he’s staying. What they’re going to do with him, I don’t know. What I will say is if he continues working the X Division the way he did this past episode of Impact, I might start changing my mind about him. Okay, I doubt I’ll change my mind about the character, but TJ Perkins – the man under the hood – impressed the heck out of me, and I might just start enjoying seeing Suicide work the ring, if not the actual character. Honestly, if they wanted Perkins in the X Division, they should have brought him in to work the X Division. Obviously they’re continuing to push the X Division with Suicide’s return, I just hope the character doesn’t get too absurd, and I hope that the likes of Sabin and Petey don’t get pushed aside for Suicide. It seems as though the returning X Division wrestlers are pushed for a week or two, then they’re nothing special. I’d rather see a smaller Division than have such fantastic wrestlers again getting the cold shoulder by TNA.

Alex: Couple points that I want to bring up on what you said, Kendra. I understand the whole Benoit tragedy, but the wrestling business moves on. Suicide came and really made a name for himself when he was in the company from being champion and winning King of the Mountain. He had a following. When he returned, my casual friend actually said this guy was interesting. He liked Suicide. Now I know that is just one person, but that’s a casual fan’s mindset. I think TNA knows that there is something with this character and some people see it and some don’t.

AJ STYLES
Appearing for the third time on Making An Impact!, AJ Styles continues to show why he is the heart and soul of TNA Wrestling.

It’s easy to look at AJ Styles and see that he is comfortable in moving the character to new and uncharted waters. AJ Styles continues to evolve and has been doing so since the Asylum days to Fortune to this newly found darker side. No one has changed gears in the 11 year history of TNA more than AJ Styles and they’ve all worked to their respective extents in order to place him right where he is now.

The entire build for this past Thursday’s show in Tampa came off the heels of the confirmation that AJ would be “patched” into the Aces. The swerve and the proclamation that he has no allegiance to any group will be the focus going into next week’s program and Slammiversary. AJ Styles has placed himself at the top of TNA again, trumping the world champion Bully Ray, even without the gold. How so?

For weeks the IWC has complained about the Aces & 8′s being around for too long (for this day and age). Also, that they’re worn out due to overexposure and the members are essentially lowcard to midcard talent at best with the exception of Bully and Mr. Anderson. Though they have taken out Team TNA countless times and swerved the fans at Lockdown, there still remained a growing disinterest before AJ went knee deep in Aces & 8′s business. Styles has put the wheels in motion to what will be the struggle for control between Aces & 8′s and himself. These same wheels will lead us into the ultimate showdown between AJ Styles and Bully Ray with a new world champion crowned. Setting the tone for the coming weeks, this is why “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles is a 3 time winner of the Making An Impact! title.

HONORABLE MENTION: SUICIDE
Honorable mention for this week will absolutely go to the returning Suicide. The Triple Threat X-Division match up on Impact Wrestling lead with a strong showing from all three competitors, but it was Suicide that shined brightest.

This incarnation of the character showcased a new arsenal of moves to his repertoire and a more fluid form than previous times. Now that Suicide is involved in a Triple Threat Ultimate X match at Slammiversary for the X-Division Championship against Kenny King and Chris Sabin, expect to see a fast paced and unorthodox bout between three men who can lead the X-Division.

The question is, will TNA continue to take the Suicide character seriously and put him in the right spot or use him sparingly to draw attention to the X-Division? Only time will tell, but Suicide’s showing on Thursday should have opened up the eyes and interests of TNA management.

The romance between current World Heavyweight Champion Bully Ray and Hulk Hogan’s daughter Brooke has been a vital element of the Aces & Eights storyline. The on-screen relationship was the catalyst for the stable’s ultimate rise to power last March, when Bully won the belt and revealed his alliance with the club. Although many had foreseen the twist, the fans could not know for sure what was going on prior to the end of the Pay-Per-View. Why? Because the audience had no idea that the contender had interacted with The Aces & Eights in any way, which made for the powerful reaction the swerve drew at Lockdown.

It was following the big night that we were shown clips, in which Bully Ray revealed what we had not seen on TNA programming. The plan had not just been concealed from The Aces & Eights’ rivals, characters like Hogan and Jeff Hardy, but from the viewers as well. Over the months leading up to Lockdown, the cameras had been selective with the backstage footage to be showed on TV, for the sake of achieving the most emotional response when the time was right.

In contrast to the brilliant application of narrative selectivity in the build-up to Bully vs. Hardy, last night’s episode of Impact Wrestling failed to make use of that storytelling technique. The opening in-ring segment between Sting and the Hogans was interrupted by the World Champion, who confessed that he still loved Brooke and he would not take his ring off. His on-screen wife burst into tears as a result. Neither the fans in attendance, nor I could buy what Ray was saying, but the short encounter between the two still worked, because it raised questions.

Shortly afterwards we got backstage footage, in which The Aces & Eights sought the reason Ray had told Brooke that he loved her. His word-for-word response was, “Did you see the way she looked tonight?”, while also adding that he did not want to discuss his personal life with Devon.  My problem with this segment was that it killed some of the initial interest that the show’s opening had ignited. While Ray never gave a straight answer as to whether he had feelings for Hulk’s daughter, we did learn one thing – the champion was acting on his own behalf, as he was not executing any plan by The Aces & Eights.

Considering that Devon will probably continue to seek explanation from his brother, it is crucial that TNA does not provide the audience with too much backstage information. Sometimes it is not about what is told, but about what is omitted. The best way to make the masses sympathize with the faces is by making them oblivious to the intents and motivations of the villains. This is getting more important now that the company has to build up to the storyline’s conclusion, with the “good guys” eventually ending the reign of The Aces & Eights. If the relationship between Bully and Brooke is currently planting the seeds for the stable’s demise, perhaps it is better if the majority of the process remains hidden from our eyes. If the shake-up within the club is only portrayed through subtle in-ring behavior, would make for compelling programming, which would be certainly more realistic than telling the story through the omniscient cameraman.

After all, where is the fun in watching a story unfold if we are fed the information the easy way?

Joey Ryan Vs. Petey Williams Vs. Suicide

Analysis: Suicide has somewhat of a cult following as evident in the tweets and positive reactions he’s garnered since TNA announced his return. He has always been an interesting character and to have the Impact fans take him seriously as a viable contender for the X-Division championship, he needed to win this contest.

The man under the mask this time displayed great in-ring skill and showcased a newer Suicide than we’re accustomed to, which is a good thing. He stole the spotlight from the other two competitors and the match played out as it should have.

Magnus Vs. Wes Brisco
Broadcast Outcome: Magnus wins by DQ due to interference from the Aces & 8′s

Analysis: Magnus needs to step up and be the future TNA talent that will help carry this promotion in the future and tonight was a great night for him to do so. Despite some shaky mic work, Magnus took the lead in Team TNA and put everyone on notice that he is not one to be taken lightly.

The only difference from the broadcast and my booking sheet would be the outcome of the match. Magnus should have gone over Wes Brisco cleanly. The goal is to have the Impact audience get behind Magnus and, again, show them that he is the future talent that will help carry the promotion. We’ve seen hints of this via backstage segments in the past in Hogan’s office and run-ins with the Aces, but tonight should have pushed Magnus further than what the broadcast presented. Keep the post match beating with the save by Samoa Joe and we have a more unified Team TNA with a great looking Magnus.

Kurt Angle Vs. Mr. Anderson

Analysis: As mentioned in my Brace For Impact! article, these two have faced off many times with both men looking great. Tonight’s contest was another great showing by these two with deep near falls and high stakes in regards to the power struggle between TNA and the Aces & 8′s.

The match outcome played out as it should, since AJ Styles was the focus of the evening. Styles has had an itch called Angle lately so scratching the itch was in the cards, even if it was part of AJ’s secret plan towards the closing moments of the show. A loss to Anderson doesn’t hurt Angle and gives the Aces & 8′s something else to smile about walking into the “patching” of AJ Styles. As we all know, the “patching” turned out terribly for the Aces & 8′s at the end of the night, with AJ Styles swerving the Aces and proving he is a man on his own mission.

Mickie James Vs. Velvet Sky (TNA Knockouts Champion) for the TNA Knockouts Championship
Broadcast Outcome: Mickie James def. Velvet Sky to become the new TNA Knockouts Champion.

Analysis: Overall, this match left much to be desired. Mickie James has not had a very good match in some time and Velvet Sky is still overacting during certain spots. Also, the finale of the match up was terrible with no excitement and a sudden pinfall victory for James. These two should have had a good title match, but their styles and recent portrayal of their characters did not do the match up justice.

My booking sheet has Velvet Sky over James because Velvet should have been portrayed as the hurt but resilient champion, taking on all comers. It still feels as though she just won the title, so a longer reign should have been in order. Gail Kim has more issues with Sky than James so it would make more sense to eventually have Gail Kim challenge Velvet Sky for the gold. Gail Kim would take advantage of the wounded knee and ultimately take out Velvet Sky at a later Impact broadcast or even pay-per-view and become the TNA Knockouts Champion.

Samoa Joe being kidnapped in 2010.

Since he lost the title in 2008, he took on a new character. This character can be described as mismanaged, off the wall, confusion, and lackluster. The description is not characterizing Samoa Joe in the ring, on the mic, or the person in general. It is characterizing the character through how he has been booked. Since 2009, Samoa Joe has been involved in so many rivalries. These rivalries weren’t memorable. They weren’t any longterm or main event storylines. They were just feuds. He certainly faced the great stars like AJ Stlyes, Rob Van Dam, and Kurt Angle, but he also faced off against new stars like The Pope and Crimson. He did win some titles along the way, the Television Title and the TNA Tag Team Titles as he teamed up with Magnus.

Samoa Joe is someone who you don’t need to build. He isn’t new in the business. He has been wrestling for over a decade. He is a veteran in the ring. He has proved himself in TNA and in Ring of Honor. We seen Samoa Joe fight long and hard to become TNA World Champion. We absolutely know he is main event material. Sadly, he hasn’t held the title in 4 years. Imagine if WWE didn’t give John Cena a title reign in 4 years? While the IWC would be rejoicing, WWE wouldn’t be able to take it. Joe is no Cena, but you get the point.

There will be people, particular the IWC, who will blame Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff. The thing is, while Joe hasn’t held the World Title since they came into the company, he also didn’t hold the title at all in 2009. Sure, he had title shots, but what is a title shot if you don’t win the title? Just thing, Ryback can gloat that he had multiple title matches since last year, but not only was it illogical booking for him to go for the title, it hurt his character after suffering each loss.

While I love TNA and what they have done, I do call out their mistakes. TNA certainly dropped the ball on Samoa Joe. While we really can’t blame one individual person, we can blame the company. We can blame creative/booking team. Samoa Joe was huge in 2008. As soon as he lost the title, he lost his career.

I went to Impact Wrestling a month ago and I was excited to see the stars. I was anticipating on seeing Samoa Joe there. Sadly, he didn’t appear at all. He wasn’t shown at any capacity. TNA moved on to Tupelo, Kansas and he wasn’t on the live or taped show. He hasn’t appeared on the show in a month. That is why I am bringing this up. The fans who watch TNA know who Samoa Joe is. He made a name for himself there. We very well know when he doesn’t appear on camera.

TNA has been wrapped up with Aces & 8s and AJ Styles. They are the main focus on the shows. That’s fair. Joe was seen battling Aces more than a month ago. He battled them for a couple of months. Really, he didn’t make an impact. He attacked the group and then got attacked. What else can you do with him?

Honestly, he reminds me of James Storm. James Storm hasn’t been booked great recently. He goes from Aces to AJ Styles and is now part of the tag team division. He got injured so he will be out of action for a couple months. Should Joe step in? Will TNA have him team with Magnus again? Should Joe be in the main event? While Sting is in the main event now, I think it will be AJ going after the title at Bound for Glory. Who is there to say that they can’t have three people going after the title? Don’t forget we have the Bound for Glory Series coming. It’s almost a guarantee that Samoa Joe has a spot in it. Will that lead him to the main event and the title?

I certainly do not think Samoa Joe is obsolete at all. He is great in the ring and on the mic. He has been one of my favorites in the company since I began watching it. I still remember his rivalry when Kurt Angle came into the company. While AJ Styles has been badly booked for quite sometime, so has Samoa Joe. I just can’t tell who got the worse end of the stick. Hopefully, after AJ is in the main event title hunt, the company will start fixing Joe to put him to that level also.

AJ STYLES JOINING THE ACES & 8′S?
The biggest part of tomorrow’s Impact Wrestling is AJ Styles possibly patching into the Aces & 8′s. For weeks, the Aces have touted their certainty of AJ’s allegiance to the group with Mr. Anderson getting into the head of the TNA original. If you haven’t read my latest Making An Impact! on TNANews.com, you can read it here and you’ll agree that Mr. Anderson is truly stepping up within the ranks of the Aces all on his own. With that said, has AJ Styles gone the way of the Aces & 8′s?

AJ Styles is destined to be the savior of TNA Wrestling so one would expect some kind of swerve to play out where AJ Styles finally comes to his senses and joins Team TNA. It can also be another episode of uncertainty as AJ can continue his late 90′s Sting impersonation for the 2010′s. This segment should close the night as it’s the focal point of the show. Though plans can change, don’t expect Bully to be involved in this segment as Mr. Anderson has been leading the campaign to patch in AJ Styles and he will be the one to see the final outcome, for better or worse for the Aces.

MR. ANDERSON VS. KURT ANGLE
These two have faced off in the ring many a time, but the stakes are much higher now.

Kurt Angle brings out the best in himself and his opponent in every bout, so expect the same heart and intensity from Angle. Mr. Anderson is beginning to return to his deserved spotlight and can work a great match with anyone on the roster. Facing Kurt has provided some down right entertaining and extreme moments in TNA with Anderson shining just as bright as Angle. If the Aces can be held at bay while these two show the TNA live audience and viewing audience what they can do, expect a great one on one match up.

However, D’Lo may want to involve himself in order to prove to the Aces & 8′s and Mr. Anderson that he should be taken out of the doghouse. Will we get a one on one match up with a clear cut winner? If he does in fact get involved tomorrow, will D’Lo help Anderson gain the victory or lose the match to Anderson’s frustration?

THE BUILD TO SLAMMIVERSARY
Nothing has been announced as far as match ups for Sting and Bully Ray, so expect more verbal exchanges between the two and possibly some sort of physical altercation. Hogan, of course, will involve himself further as he tries to be the voice of clarity for Sting, but it will pretty much be the same things we come to expect. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as long as it’s done in an entertaining way. However, it will be difficult as the main focus is on AJ Styles and the Aces & 8′s.

The best segment would be an in ring opener to start the night with Sting getting the brunt of a Bully and Aces attack. Perhaps a comeback by Sting to get the crowd going and we’re off to start Impact Wrestling.

A GOOD NIGHT OF TV
If done well, tomorrow’s show could be a memorable one. Along with the main stories as mentioned above, we have Velvet Sky defending the Knockouts Championship against Mickie James. Will Mickie win the gold or lose her chance and take out her frustrations on the champion? Will Gail Kim get involved and prove she is the dominant Knockout?

A Gut Check Qualifier and the return of Suicide to the X-Division as well! In regards to James Storm, he was just advised that he will need 6-8 weeks to heal from an abdominal tear and adductor strain, so I would expect no action from Storm and a replacement put in to tag with the mystery partner.

There is a lot to look forward to so take a moment to view the landscape and brace yourself for Impact Wrestling on Spike!
