Is The Knockouts Division Fixed?

TNATara

I have written about the knockouts division multiple times since I wrote my first article for the site in September 2013. I have talked about many things including falsely stating that Lei’d Tapa was the future of the Knockouts division…only a few months before she left. Now, Angelina Love is Knockouts Champion and she is back with Velvet, Gail Kim is face, and it looks like Taryn Terrell and Brooke will be returning soon.

While these things along with the recent debut of Brittany look to be good things, the Knockouts Division is still not completely fixed. However for there to be a solution, we need to look back at the problem. When exactly did the Knockouts division fall apart? People could have various different answers for this question but I’d say around mid-late 2010. It was still good then, but it laid out a story that in my opinion ruined the Knockouts division. On October 21, 2010 Winter made her first appearance on Impact. I actually vividly remember her first appearance for TNA. My reaction was “What the hell just happened?” and then “Oh crap was that Katie Lea Burchill!?”

In April 2011, The Beautiful People officially died. TBP formed in late 2007 as Velvet-Love Entertainment. While they went through many different members and managers including Cute Kip, Lacey Von Erich, and The Governor they still were a huge part of the Knockouts Division for years. TBP dying ruined the division. Although some of my favorite knockouts matches of all time happened in 2013 such as the two great matches between Taryn Terrell and Gail Kim and I was IN LOVE with Mickie James’ heel champion character over the summer, the division was still a mess.

But now The Beautiful People is back and there are finally a somewhat decent amount of Knockouts. But the division is not fixed. But there are some relatively easy solutions. Hire the girls from Knockouts Knockdown. Not necessarily all of them, but at least 3. The ones I would choose are Reby Sky, Mia Yim, and Jessicka Havok. These are 3 very different women with all different backgrounds and styles. I first heard of Reby Sky about a year ago when I found out she was engaged to my favorite wrestler of all times brother. Since then I’ve been a huge fan of hers and while she is not as talented in the ring as the other two women I mentioned, I feel she would be a great addition to the roster, especially as a third member of the Beautiful People. I honestly don’t remember how I heard about Mia Yim but I’ve been a big fan for a long time and think she could put on some GREAT matches with Gail, Angelina, and Brittany. Jessicka Havok, I first heard about/saw her in some random free iPPV I found a couple weeks after Mickie James left TNA where she wrestled her. I don’t remember who won but it was a good match from what I remember. She has a unique look and is talented in the ring, I don’t see any reason for them not to sign her.

Although the Knockouts Division is not fixed, it has improved a lot. While some writers are focusing on the negatives talking about the company’s “extinction” and comparing TNA to a man who has ruined a company for millions of people, I’m gonna take a minute to be positive and talk about what resources TNA already has with the division and where they could go with them. Although she hasn’t been given a chance to prove it yet (which is understandable, she has only been there for a month or two) Brittany is a great wrestler. A feud between her and Gail could produce some of the best knockouts matches in a long time. It’d be a bit hard for them to feud right now since they are both face and against the Beautiful People, but eventually if it does happen it will be great. Speaking of Gail, she could do anything. Heel, face, champion, putting people over, it doesn’t matter. Whatever role she is in, she can and will pull it off great. Then we have Madison, who since Sacrifice has pretty much been lost in the shuffle. I truly hope they find something to do with her soon, whether its joining the Beautiful People or getting in a feud not involving TBP, I hope we get to see her continue to be featured the way shes been since her return. Then we have ODB, who honestly, I don’t care if shes wrestling or not. However, I think she should be coming out with and managing Eric Young more often. Then if she is needed for a tag match or something, she could wrestle, but I don’t see any reason for her to even come close to getting the Knockouts title again. With them, The Beautiful People, and soon Taryn and Brooke, the future of the Knockouts division and TNA are looking bright.
