If there is one thing internet wrestling NEWZ sites love it’s the possibility that they can copy and paste a juicy story about TNA Wrestling just to get page hits. I say copy and paste because, honestly, that is all we see these days. One website copies and pastes a story and then it goes over and over across dozens of websites. No change in wording. No development. Same story. Imagine if you saw a movie series or television series and it had the EXACT same plot and story in each movie or show. Imagine the same thing happened! It will get boring fast. Not only will people lose interest in the show or movie, but it makes anyone who is part of that show or movie uninteresting and unimportant.
While I was watching WWE Hell in a Cell this past Sunday, I get a notification from someone to check out this story on a copy and paste NEWZ site. It states, “Breaking News; TNA Up For Sale?!” If that doesn’t get the attention of people, I don’t know what will!
Let me first off say that this is the “Rumor of the Week” in regards to TNA Wrestling. Make no mistake about it, ever since July or August there has been a weekly rumor. It went from TNA talent being paid late to TNA losing money. The rumors went from TNA losing money from their talent poll to losing money in their live events area. There were rumors of TNA losing money on the road and rumors of TNA pulling Impact Wrestling off the road since August or September. There were rumors of Kurt Angle actually going to rehab on purpose so AJ Styles can make his character change. There were rumors that Goldberg would come into the company. There were rumors of TNA going out of business. Now the rumors are TNA going up for sale. When I thought we seen it all… we haven’t!
Like anything in the news, or even life itself, there is a beginning. There is a place where something starts. The TNA Wrestling for sale rumors came from one person… Dave Meltzer. Here is an excerpt what he said:
“There’s a lot of moves being done behind the scenes. There are, no matter what anyone is gonna say right now, big things behind the scenes as far as the future ownership of the company and at that point God only knows where it goes…. There’s people looking at getting it and I think the Carters are looking to get out. They’ve lost enough money and all that and as far as what that means, who knows? But they’ve been looking to get out for awhile, now everyone is going to scream at me and all that, but that’s a 100%, but that’s the stuff they don’t want you to know…. They’ve been looking to get out when they stopped, you know, when it became incumbent, when they didn’t want to fund them anymore….”
NEWZ websites took this paragraph and gave it steroids. The sites went all out on this story saying TNA is up for sale and TNA very well might go out of business. However, these sites were simply on roid rage! They wanted hits. They wanted to stir the witch’s kettle. Look at the underline and bold phrase in the above paragraph! “I think the Carters are looking to get out.” “I think”… “I THINK”! A guy goes on record to give his own personal opinion and people take it like it is a fact. He thinks the Carters want to stray away from the wrestling business. I never seen an opinion be blown out of control. He sprinkled a “100%” in there. However, he does sprinkle lots of “Who knows” in there. Who really does know? If he did, he would say so. If he knew, he would straight out say it is a fact. He doesn’t.
I went to my sources to try to get some clarity on this whole rumor situation. I may not have a lot of sources, but I have a couple who are inside the company. Point blank, nothing was stated about TNA Wrestling going out of business. The fact that people asked me whether this site will continue if TNA Wrestling closes their doors is crazy, insane, and absurd. To continue, one of my sources stated that they could see The Carters “sell some of their shares”. A source made it clear that they could be open for investors.
Could The Carters be searching for investors to help raise money for TNA Wrestling? Sure. In fact, that makes sense. As Richard Gray reported back in August, Jeff Jarrett, who is part owner of TNA Wrestling is looking for an investor.
I was told by a source within the company that “The Carters want Dixie Carter to run the company”. With that being said, we shouldn’t expect Dixie or The Carters leaving TNA behind. The family will continue to realize that the wrestling industry is more than a scripted business.
There are a number of ways to grow a business. You can expand your product line, merge with another company, sell shares, or gain acquisitions. Growth eats cash. If the company wants to grow, they are going to need more cash on hand. One of the ways to do that is to get an investor to invest in the company.
From everything I am hearing and reading, TNA Wrestling is looking for investors. Who would invest? Viacom is the main player in my book. Richard Gray wrote the following in a recent Ask WNW:
Sources close to Viacom indicated to me they would be interested because they were high up on the TNA brand and cross-over partnership.
I love how these NEWZ sites state that Eric Bischoff or even WWE would be interested in “purchasing” the company. Why would Eric be so interested in buying a company if he didn’t even show up at TNA’s biggest pay-per-view of the year, Bound for Glory? He is the Executive Producer. I guess the same can be said about Dixie Carter missing the TNA Hall of Fame Ceremony.
As time continues to draw longer and longer away from Sunday October, 27th… the date that Dave Meltzer announced that TNA Wrestling is up for sale… the less we hear from him about the subject. We have yet to hear a follow-up from him or any updates. You would think the second largest wrestling company in the world being up for sale is a huge story that the guy who broke it should keep updated, right?
As the rumor became wide spread and well known, jokes spread far and wide about the second largest wrestling company in the world. I saw people saying Disney bought TNA Wrestling. I saw people writing that they have $20 to purchase the entire company. I even saw a little bush league talk show set-up a fund to take money from innocent people and say it is for buying TNA Wrestling. I only wonder what they do with that money and I feel sorry for anyone who falls for that trick.
The rumors will never stop. The insults, attacks, and trying to feel superior and fit in with the internet wrestling community/crowd will never fade. There’s always going to be that one rumor someone starts. There’s always going to be that one insult about the company. I still can’t fathom why people would actually want TNA Wrestling to go out of business. Hundreds of people lose their jobs. The wrestling business as a whole would suffer. Some can’t realize that and some may never.
Next time people want to post a silly rumor or blow up a simple thought from someone, you should remember a simple quote Dixie Carter posted on her official Twitter:
